I had bevan in 04ish and snuck out with a B.
All of his tests were exactly the same format. Two "problems." Each problem consisting of two definitions, a derivation, and a problem from the problem sets. To best prepare for the tests, do all the homework sets and put them on your cheat sheet. You get 1 cheat sheet and his favorite joke is that you can write as small as you want and bring in your electron microscope to class to read it. And get the solutions manual too to help with the homework.
I never got more than 1 or 2 points on the derivations (they were each worth 13) but made up for it with the workout problems (each worth 25) and made B's or C's on the tests. The homework sets were worth 6 points to your average.
