Just heard Ed Henry state the following:

Weekly unemployment claims at a 57 year low.
GDP growth this quarter 3.4% per the Fed
Fed estimates next quarter at 5% growth.

Looks pretty impressive to me.

More people getting jobs or government made it harder to get so fewer people are trying to fraud the system?

Hopefully both.

and yet inflation is still kicking everyone's asses across all sectors - commercial, residential, governmental, personal, at the grocery stores, at the fuel pump, buying car, new tech toys,, dog food. etc.

Hell even my T, Th prostitute has implement a service fee on top of the tip*.

the average consumer only cares about what they see, and their area of focus is very limited.

Yep, the economy is doing very well, yet yesterday the Fed, while admitting that the economy is good and that inflation is high... did absolutely nothing. That's after raising it a quarter point last month when it should have been raised half a point, because inflation. It's possible that they are just waiting for the election, then they will act. More likely that they don't really intend to do anything about inflation.

Weekly unemployment claims were 194,000. Just last July they were 189,000. Hardly the lowest in in 57 years. It isn't the lowest in 4 months.

"As conservative economists at the Hoover Institution and AEI have repeatedly pointed out, a 3% inflation rate today isn't price reliefit's just a slower rate of price growth stacked on top of a permanently higher baseline. The $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan flooded an already supply-constrained economy with excess demand, pushing inflation to a 40-year peak of 9.1% in 2022. Because central banks actively avoid broad deflation to prevent recessions, that roughly 20% cumulative price jump is a permanent tax on consumers. Today's 3% rate simply compounds on top of that elevated price floor, meaning pre-2021 price levels are gone for good." Thanks Biden

+ using tariffs as a negotiating tool against all the countries that have been tariffing the **** out of American products has resulted in over $20 trillion in commitments to build facilities here in USA- that investment creates jobs and growth around them.

Yet everywhere you turn, layoffs and un/severely underemployed is rampant. People with excellent qualifications are applying for hundreds of positions before getting a single call, and unemployment is STILL being reported through obama math.....

In the first half of 2026, real wage growth for the bottom quartile (bottom 25%) of US earners remained positive, with nominal hourly wages growing by approximately 3.7% year-over-year as of July 2026.

Wage earners are doing better than salaried employees, which is typical for the start of a recovery.

Salaried employees that are easily replaced with AI are not being fired, they just aren't being hired.

that 189,000 is the lowest weekly reading since 1969!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the October 29 reading of 194,000 was near that roughly 57-year low, but it was not itself the low.

Claims have been at or below 200,000 for seven straight weeks.

The average weekly since 1969 is about 366,000 claims per week. The median is 342,000

Speaking from 29 years in corporate recruiting, I've seen a different side of this equation.
During a recent three-month hiring effort, we received 1,600 applications, phone screened 1,200 candidates, conducted 300 onsite interviews, and hired 100 people.

That means 1,500 applicants didn't receive an offer, despite the fact that many were fully qualified.

The reality is that hiring has always involved large funnels. What's different today is the sheer volume of applicants competing for the same opportunities. In many cases, it's not a lack of talent. It's an oversupply of qualified candidates chasing a limited number of openings.

Job growth is going to be blue collar for a while. Welders, machinists, construction, electricians, etc..
I know many don't like getting their hands dirty, but this is where the opportunity is as we bring industry and manufacturing back to the US.

I am 53. I have never voted for a liberal in my life, & that will not change.

As a business owner, i can tell you unequivocally that this economy is extremely difficult to navigate.

One can be a true conservative and still acknowledge that this economy is far from healthy. Two things can be true.

I feel ya. Opened my business in the early 80's in the RGV. 26 years old. $100,000 in debt. Inflation and interest rates thru the roof. Had two notes at 12% and 14%. Had a key man policy worth $500K. I was literally worth more dead than alive. Thank God for Ronald Reagan. Trump/Bessent laying the foundation. Things will get much better.

5% GDP after like 1% for several years. No one but Trump thought it would be.

20 trillion in local manufacturing investment.

What's worse than gas prices (temporary) is the cost to purchase a home and start a life leading to financial freedom.

Charlie Kirk used to bring it up often too while talking to the college kids.

I build custom homes; we've been in a funk for a while. Probably one of the worst sectors i'm guessing right now

I fully believe we'll see better times, but the journey is rough some days.

Hell, I've been stating this paragraph on here for a couple of years now. Don't need an Economics degree for that; it's common sense.

Where I differ from the Fed (IMO), is that 3% inflation is the new norm. This fantasy that we are going to return to 2% is just that and the sooner we accept this and move on the better.

They are lying to the public with this ongoing 2% inflation goal and setting themselves and whoever is in office up for failure because of it.

I'm of a similar age and have dealt with similar challenges on my path to success. That said, it is not all honey and sugar today. There are sectors of the economy doing very well, and others that are not. The reasons are somewhat complex and nuanced. As a forever Republican voter, it pisses me off when Trumpers dismiss people who acknowledge the pain as if they are somehow disloyal to Dear Leader for expressing their real-world situation. That is a losing proposition.

You don't bring more people over to your side by dissing them. Be honest about the situation and how to deal with it in a constructive way instead of constantly spinning MAGA talking points. People can see right through that BS, and some of them will vote for team Blue because of it. Not me, but others will. Shame on us if we're so damn arrogant as to put the blame on them. People react to what they see coming at them. It's normal human nature. We need to be smart about our political strategy... much smarter than our leader in the WH.

Yeah, ive been roofing for 10 years now, and it's always been an interesting thing to me because of how you can keep a close finger on the pulse of the consumer markets. Over the past 5 years, I have gone from 90% insurance work to 80% retail work. You have to be nimble. The economy right now is one that is really not great, but the specs look alright. It will get better, just make smart decisions and all will be well. For me, commercial and retail residential is doing OK. I'm starting to see a turn into more new construction work such as custom homes.

Our work load is fine, it's actually pretty strong. But everything feels like a dogfight right now. Sales are there but they are harder to close, subs are on edge with cash flow nightmares, same with clients, labor force is volatile to say the least. ;}
