Good morning.

I KNOW you need to laugh after yesterday's comedy show, The Elko Follies. Today's Funnies happened by accident. I had two memes (the first two) that I could only post here or on the MLB/baseball forum that no one looks at. Then, I realized that I had three other baseball related memes in the selection, so I decided to scrap the other stuff and go with a baseball theme. I love the game and played it for years in my youth. I don't care for the majors anymore though. I was a huge fan of the Astros and Yankees back then.

I hope these work for you. It was a challenge to line them up because they are scattered in two 'albums' on different pages with other sports, but it's always worth the effort if I can make you laugh.

Shout out to the head chef in S. California who, I discovered last week, reads the Sunday Funnies. Same for those who post comments and to those who share what I post here. You are the fuel that keeps this running.

Have a great day.

And finally...

Bonus, if you have time...

Great Funnies today, Rocky! I love baseball and many of these brought back great memories.

Yogi-isms always get me laughing (even though I've heard them all), but I was laughing my ass off through most of these.

I'd never seen the Pete Rose and Mickey Mantle one, so a big thanks for that!

The Chico Escuela baseball card was right up there too. "Beisbol been berry, berry, good to me!" and "Thank you, Hane", when he was interviewed by Jane Curtin on Weekend Update. That was back when Saturday Night Live was really funny.

And any baseball stuff without Bob Uecker would be criminal. This exchange in Major League was classic.

Uecker: "That's all we got? One GD hit?"

Monty covers the microphone : "You can't say GD on the air!"

Uecker: "Don't worry, nobody is listening anyway."

I'll be chuckling about many of these the rest of the day. Thanks again!!

Congratulations Rocky on a two-grand-slam Sunday funnies
I'm not sure if you are Tatis, Cloninger, or Meuller, but you are one of these guys

  • Fernando Tats: Only player with two grand slams in the same inning.
  • Tony Cloninger: Only pitcher to hit two grand slams in one game.
  • Bill Mueller: Only player to hit grand slams from both sides of the plate in one game.
Probably Cloninger because that will never happen again with designated hitters

Kind of surprised this one didn't make the cut

Thanks for all the great laughs

I remember (do you?) Bob Aspromonte of the Colt .45's hitting two grand slams in the same game.

edit - It might have been in the same inning too, but I can't exactly remember. Lots of good memories from back then.

I do not, unfortunately, and I grew up in Houston. I remember calling him Aspro the Astro, though. Thanks for the correction. He didn't turn up on an internet search, so I missed him.

Thank you Rocky! Baseball always makes me feel sentimental so this was one of my favorite collections.

I had forgotten about Davey Lopes. For some reason I really liked him as a kid and got so excited when i'd pull one of his cards, even though I was a Rangers fan. Probably from seeing him on TWIB or something.

I laughed a bit too much over this one

But thanks for this great collection, Rocky. I love the game of baseball, played it through high school, but like you, don't really watch MLB any more. The player's strike of 1994 is what started my sour attitude toward the professional game. I was a huge Nolan Ryan fan after he signed with the Astros. Still have the ticket stubs to his 5th no-hitter. Hated that the Astros let him go to the Rangers, but I'd say he made the Rangers a far better organization than they were previously.

The kid got 2 hits with one swing of the bat.

I had to watch this one a couple of times to get it... Absolutely hilarious.

Looked like he simultaneously hit a foul ball from an adjoining field plus one pitched to him.

Nolan Ryan signing with the Astros is what got me back to baseball. I was a fan 10 years earlier, but kinda lost track thereafter. Then I moved to Houston in the early 80s and saw many a game at the Astrodome. Great times! I really wish I had those baseball cards I owned in the late 60s/early 70s.

Yep. We had 'em all from 1960 - 1969, all the greats and not-so-greats, but they ended up in the attic and one of my sisters decided one day to clean the attic. She threw them all away. We also had a baseball another sister who was living in NYC won as a door prize. It had the signatures of the 1961 Yankees on it. My brother and I didn't have a baseball (lost them all the time) but we had that one, so we thought we'd toss it around a few times - no harm, no foul. Well, you know what happened next.

So, a couple of years ago, as a gag, I made up this baseball with all the names of the greatest players of that time. I show it to people who think it's extremely valuable. I never said it had their autographs, I said it has their names. You should see the faces drop when I tell them that.

That's pretty cool y'all had that baseball signed by the '61 Yankees. What y'all did with it sounds like a movie. Oh yeah, "The Sandlot". Love that flick. Don't tell me "The Beast" got that ball!!!!!

As I said in my previous post, I kinda lost interest in baseball during the 70s. My cards ended up in my folks attic which got cleaned out during the early-mid eighties. By the time I asked about them again. they were long gone. I'm pretty sure I had a Roberto Clemente card, but it's been a while. I remember listening to the Pirates games on KDKA out of Pittsburgh when staying summers with my great aunts in the little town where my Mom was born in western Pennsylvania. I would love to have just one of those nights back.

My wife caught a foul ball in a game between the Astros and Pirates at the Astrodome. Don't remember the year, but it was c. 1988. We can't remember who threw the pitch, Nolan Ryan or Doug Drabek, but still have that ball. We got Doug Drabek's signature on it since my in-laws lived down the street from the Drabeks in Victoria. Doug was a year behind me in grade school. He was a really good athlete even then.

All of the above is part of why I love baseball. To me football is really good, but baseball is great! Call it nostalgia, or whatever. Doesn't matter to me.
