Climate change is nothing but a cult.

Every "extreme" thing that happens with the weather is because of climate change, even if it reverses itself.

Quote:

Six years ago, The Washington Post said that Atlantic hurricanes seasons are going to become much worse due to global warming. Stronger storms, especially near the coast. Hyperactive years like 2020 was said to be a "harbinger of the future."

Last week, The Washington Post reported that the lack of hurricanes in the Atlantic this year is also potentially because of global warming.

Climate change has become a convenient scapegoat for climastrologists blame everything that happens with the weather on. They can't ever be wrong.

That is why it is hard to take the pencil necked geeks in lab coats, high water pants, and pocket protectors seriously. Global warming causes hotter temps, colder temps, more snow, less snow, stronger thunderstorms, weaker thunderstorms, more hurricanes, fewer hurricanes, stronger hurricanes, weaker hurricanes, floods and droughts, more tornados, fewer tornados, etc. Global warming causes it all.

Is this a concern? I don't know enough about the science to understand all the implications but from I do understand, the oceans heating up probably isn't a good thing.

Yep, everything that happens proves their theory. That's exactly how I learned the scientific method.

The El Niño-Southern Oscillation is a normal ocean cycle which has been occurring for millions of years. Some studies say perhaps as long as 250 million.

It long predates anything we lowly humans could ever do to affect the climate.

Some years are strong, others are weak, and others nothing happens.

Sea surface temps are a terrible data source to use for measuring accurate ocean temps due to light refraction off the surface.

Need to see a data set using sub surface temps (collected from buoys).

We should do like the pre-Inca folks and sacrifice our children in order to please the climate gods anytime El Niño flared up and ruined fishing and guano production. Seemed to work out for them.

Or is that basically what the Dems are asking us to do now?

TBF, the lack of Atlantic hurricanes is not a lack of hurricanes and does not disprove their earlier assertion (though I do disagree with them). There are 2 months left in the season, and this has already been an above average year in the Pacific, with 18 named storms and 8 hurricanes, with 5 of those being major hurricanes of cat 4+. There are area s being watched now that will likely turn into named storms or hurricanes soon.

The lack of Atlantic hurricanes is probably due to a very strong El Nino, which typically inhibits Atlantic hurricane formation. How historic this El Nino is and what it can be attributed to are up for debate, but if their position is that it is caused by global warming, their assertions are not contradictory.

El Nino also enhances the Eastern Pacific hurricane season.

Yes, the fact that any weather event or change can be blamed on global warming is a concern. A big one.

And this being an historic El Niño is not up for debate either. It is what it is.

Though most will say the true measure of impact will be what we see over the next few months.

Global warming seems to be the trend these days as well and based on historical record. Given that record predates man, the absolute here is that none of what we are seeing has been caused by man, at worst just barely maybe slightly smidgingly from time to time influenced by man… just a bit but not much.

All weather phenomenon is proof of man made climate change, you silly goose. It does not matter if you can show within the historical record that such events have occurred in the past.

Need to see a data set using sub surface temps (collected from buoys).

So back to science... They have been measuring sea temperatures, predicted an El Nino, which are known to stifle hurricane development in the gulf and atlantic, and that is what happened.

And there's a natural ebb and flow of that phenomenon.

El Niño years are also historically the weakest Atlantic hurricane years due to wind shear. So talking about a weak hurricane year in the Atlantic is just a discussion about the strong El Niño. It doesn't mean anything else.

For human originated activities to cause catastrophic global warming it would have to approach something of this scale… and would still take tens of thousands of years.

And I've got a sneaking suspicion we'll manage to remove ourselves from the equation one way or another long before that happens.

Yes, and that policy will simply be Marxism and wealth redistribution in the guise of climate policy. It's called the Green New Deal and has already been proposed and/or implemented in a variety of ways. Many Democrats and leftists who push GND now openly admit it has nothing to do with climate science.

It's simply a vector for Marxism.

Yes it's a natural phenomenon. Happy? I never said it wasn't.

It's kind of silly to say they haven't measured sea temperatures correctly if they were able to make an accurate prediction.

I worked with groundwater modelers on large scale aquifers. They ALWAYS want more data, more monitoring points and tweak boundary conditions to match the observations. As you state, dollars driving the end result.
