Even if nothing changes about the professors, this is a huge win for society. I saw up close in grad school at two major research universities that these departments are nothing but breeding grounds for angry people. The departmental structure does a lot to reinforce feelings of grievance and hate, and is much more effective than your average liberal professor preaching from the lectern.

And don't get me started on the quality of research.

I would not say it was a huge win. The stupid woke research was in existence long before DEI departments existed.

The huge win would be making recognizable gains to reverse the liberal/progressive/marxist minds afflicting the universities.

lol. My first question in my head when reading this thread. The answer is never and my brother whose undergrad degree is from UNT would concur with me.

His degree is in History and has been successful despite UNT because he works his ass off and is very smart. He has some great stories arguing with his History professors and schooling them on their own material. Such pushback likely gets you expelled these days.

They are not shutting down the majors or the classes, just moving the departments under another department with a more innocuous sounding name. Not as big of a win as many are making it out to be.

Just a reminder that consolidating departments =/= canceling degree programs. The degrees still exist, the reorg just let's the university spend less on them.

One of the articles mentioned there were 307 students spread over 6 majors, which is just ridiculous for a school of 35,000 undergraduates. Some department chairs manage degrees with a thousand plus majors, so there is absolutely no reason you need 3 or 4 chairs for 307 majors.

This comment is STUPID. One would be FAR BETTER educated on this subject by taking a similar class in the Economics or even History/Poly Sci department. Besides, the subject matter of these ridiculous ___ studies departments rarely touched on the ACTUAL elements of behavior of these countries. In other to do that, they'd have to teach the atrocities of Mao, Stalin, etc.

Absolutely NO CHANCE of that.
