I was in Executive Council for our church for four years.

We sponsored a Boy and Girl Scout troop. Part of our function was to review both troops annually and IMO I don't know how anyone would put their child in GSA. The cookies be damned. It's a been a while since I served and I'm pretty sure the GS troop folded or at least moved on.

Both would present their curriculum and the Boys was typically rubber stamped and the we'd redline the crap out of the Girls. The difference in their mission and vision statements say it all. Boys (Scouts) include God and Country, the Girls not so much.

Another thread started because someone fell for some facebook bs. The badges pictured by the "completely reliable" news source quoted are real, they are simply worn by muslin scouts. There are Jewish and Christian patches available too. Nobody is learning the pillars of Islam and earning a badge in it.

Thanks to the past decade of hyper-slated posts on Twitter, I've learned to Google pretty much everything.

Because of that I found that there are these religious things for all the major faiths in this country:

That religion is being used as something to learn about is something I have a hard time being bothered, much less upset, about. Now, if religion was being used to indoctrinate the kids into a specific faith, then I'd have a probem with it.

This looks more like kids learning about more things in the real world.

Baby steps…

I had to look this up. It's not the first badge offered for Islam, and there are other badges offered for other religions including Christian, Judaism, Hindu, Bahai, and LDS. These badges are made by third party organizations and endorsed by Girl Scouts (as opposed to normal first party badges). Girl Scouts has one religious badge, but it's open ended and can be applied to any religion.

When I was in the scouts way back in the day, you could earn a religious faith emblem. Including Islam! Gasp!

Who trusts the Girl Scouts to teach their children about their Catholic faith? That's what CCD is for.

FWIW, most faiths have a specific badge you can earn and that's what this looks like. Not defending, just adding my observations. Our girl did our churches version and it was a 3 month Bible study with us. It was something she did individually, not with the troop.

Pretty simple, if they allow other religious badges, then they should allow Islam. This coming from a person who doesn't like the religion, but who does like when organizations allow parents to live their faith through nonharmful ways, like a badge. Isn't that good parenting?

There are still very good BSA Troops, mostly attached to Catholic and other Christian churches / schools. My son's Troop is old school and legit. Totally support and understand Trail Life USA when needed.

BSA never should have changed their name or bowed to public and woke political pressures.
