Unnamed sources for info on a flu outbreak? Thats essentially not having a single source who would go on record, meaning the story is a sad attempt at propaganda.

Then to include the recruit who died doing PT and saying things like "it hasn't been determined YET if the flu was the cause of death". Very misleading.

Finally catching up on what made its rounds across the internet a week ago! I really figured the talking points would have been out sooner.


Oh no! Not the flu! Especially in the summer! A full 9 months since pretty much anyone (that does choose to) got a flu shot. Especially last years flu shot that proved to be one of the occasional ones that is less effective.

Viruses mutate. I'm sure everyone here knows... For the flu it does tend to mutate slowly enough that the scientists that do this work can generally get a vaccine prepped for Fall distribution to combat what is generally a Winter virus. Last years was one of those years where it missed the mark. Stands to reason that at 9 months, flu shot last September/October or not you're likely not protected from whatever might be going around now.

And as others have said... Oh no, not the flu. Take a few days off, sleep in, use tylenol to control your fever, and see you back at work in a few days.

I don't understand what the problem is. I was in the Air Force for 20 years and was required to take a flu shot every year. Never got the flu either.

1. Flu shot doesn't prevent the flu

2. EVERYONE gets sick at basic. Spent a week coughing blood into a pillow with a respiratory infection.

3. I no longer have to waste time chasing down soldiers and disciplining them over a ****ing flu shot

Well, in reality there is no problem.
SecWar decided that, while the DoD mandatory vaccine list is still quite long, he saw no need to continue requiring a flu vaccine that is what 50-60% effective on good years? The flu does not kill or permanently injure healthy people.

But the TDS crowd who must hate everything that Trump does or touches, therefore hates Hegseth and they get bonus points because he used to work at Fox and isn't a traditional DC career swamp creature or CNN throwback.

Therefore, it's a crisis that will destroy the military that the flu got into barracks at basic.

I've never had a flu shot. I've caught the flu once; on an airplane flying back from Vegas.

Or they work in a Chinese lab doing research on flu vaccines.
