A bit of good news amidst the doom and gloom about the future of US tech workers.

Opendoor - a San Francisco-based real estate tech company, is shutting down its entire operations in India. They will bring this work back to the US with smaller teams using AI.

I am sure many others here who managed Indian IT teams will shed few tears over losing Indian teams. My experience: there were few good Indian workers largely due to mediocre skills and an inability to align their work with the bigger picture.

There is growing thought that Agentic AI is likely to greatly reduce or eliminate offshore teams providing 'manual" labor.

Smaller headcount is likely with AI, but AI also makes the remaining workers even more valuable. Let's move all of the offshore work back to the US, where the customers are.

This is good news

There's still a problem in the US and everywhere else though. As the older generation of programmers ages out, where will the new experts in computer science come from?
