... and the libs have finally read, planned, and in the process of fully implementing it. Surprised it took this long but, I still see hope, albeit only a glimmer, that it won't succeed.

Should be required high school reading along with Animal Farm. I doubt it is anymore.

Both parties have an equal hand in ensuring all roads lead to Oceania. We have always been at war with EastAsia.

Both were required when I was in high school in the mid 80's. Of course at the time I didn't appreciate them at all and thought they were stupid. Didn't realize the genius of Orwell until I was probably in my late 30's.

Wasn't required, English teacher was too busy assigning lord of the flies, the red pony and the yearling.

George Orwell was an ardent anti fascist and democratic socialist. I don't know that he'd be all that dismayed by liberals of today.

I like Orwell and I love his books, but, one also must remember something he said. According to Orwell, every word he wrote was in an effort to further socialism.

He was trying to be the conscience of the movement. He wasn't trying to destroy it.

And if you have not read The Road To Wigan Pier it's worth your time.

Both were required reading for my daughter.
2 years later, when my other kids went through the exact same class, both those books were "replaced" with books by minority authors.

The original English teacher quit and left Austin ISD. They replaced her with a woke commie.

I didn't read them until I was 50. My HS teacher was a lib who loved Faulkner

That's an interesting take on current events. Might be the first person that I have heard spin it this way.

Orwell was a "pure" communist in the vein of Trotsky. He felt the Bolsheviks ruined things and most of his warnings dealt with them. To the end he felt that pure communism was the ideal.

A list of things that came from 1984:
  • Big Brother
  • Memory Hole
  • Thoughtcrime
  • Doublethink
  • Newspeak
  • Thought Police
  • Ministry of Truth
  • 2 + 2 = 5
  • War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength
I finally read 1984 in my 40s and I wish I had read it decades ago.

Yup. It's hilarious watching each extreme of the political spectrum swear up and down that 1984 is a critique of "the other team", and not their team.

Of course the only problem is all attempts at "pure" communism get corrupted. Human nature being what it is, the attempts always devolve into totalitarianism.

Orwell and other "it'll work this time" believers never could see that.

Bro your party tells you believe men can get pregnant and that men in dresses are women and if you fail to comply with the Doublethink you are cancelled. You don't want to play this game

1984, A Face in the Crowd, and the teachings of Christ are the definitive canon of "boy this is really a scathing indictment of [people who aren't me]"

I cna easily give points that both sides are moving this way (and seemingly have been) for quite a while. The sooner we can all come to the realization and admit that both sides are equally ridiculous, the better. Maybe then, we can start to take back control. The way we have been moving is not what 1.) our Redeemer preaches and 2.) what our forefathers had in mind.
