"President Trump's threat should be understood as an effort to intimidate the press and to prevent journalists from doing work the public needs them to do."

What a crock. The public didn't need them to do a damn thing or to know about it right away. It could have easily been witheld until the airman had been rescued. Running the story when they did put numerous lives at risk. Whoever leaked needs to go to prison for a long time, and that's being very, very kind.

The journalist was trying to get the mission to fail. A large number of TDS infected democrats were hoping the mission failed.

I thought we weren't at War? That's what this board has been spouting non stop since the end of February.

In any case what specific crime do you think they are guilty of? I think you'd be hard pressed to prove they had intent to betray the United States or that they provided material support to terrorists.

The person who leaked that info could be in trouble, but generally speaking the press has a wide degree of freedom to publish things about the government even of they are classified.

I dont think that was a threat. It was a guarantee.

The leak did compromise a military action to save the life of a downed pilot and it put countless rescuers in excess danger

I think that Oppenheimer wrongly believed that since the war was won, we didn't need to build more nuclear weapons. Of course, we can now see in hindsight that would not have worked.

Teller reportedly torpedoed Oppenheimer's chances in a hearing on the issue. When Teller returned to Los Alamos, Teller was shunned by the other nuclear scientists for his testimony against Oppenheimer. In one account, in the cafeteria at Los Alamos, when Teller walked in with his food and sat down to eat, everyone else got up and left.

In 1971, Teller spoke at the Nuclear Science Symposium for high school students at tu. He did something I thought rather strange. instead of taking questions from the floor, if you had a question you had to write the questions on pieces of paper and pass them to the aisle where they were collected and taken to Teller. Teller then answered the questions he wanted to answer. I couldn't figure that out at the time, but I now strongly think that Teller didn't want to answer any questions about Oppenheimer.

Keep in mind it is possible the leaker wasn't an American, necessarily, but possibly some other military or government official involved from one of the supporting nations who may have been aware of activities.

Of course and I do all the time. But I will not support the arrest and jailing of a journalist because I disagree with their take or they publish information when they have a constitutional right to do so.
