Secretary Bessent has confirmed that starting in June all US currency will feature the signature of President Trump instead of the United States Treasurer, breaking a 160+ year tradition.
As much as I appreciate a lot of his policies, doing bizarre things like naming buildings after himself and stunts like this are getting a bit ridiculous. There was an attempt not that long ago for him to put himself on a new $1 coin, which was rejected due to a long-standing rule that living individuals cannot have their image on currency. Then there was the stunt of convincing the Nobel Peace Prize winner to gift her medal to him only for him to turn around and hand the Venezuelan presidency to someone else.
I'm always a believer in voting for policy rather than the person because we all know most politicians are snakes. It's not going to change my votes in November.
The question for me is how many other voters is this turning off and is it a mistake to do things like this?
IMO pointless self-serving things like this don't do anything to help win support of the electorate in a year that is going to already be tough for the gop..

Bessent said in a statement that the move was appropriate for the U.S. 250th anniversary, given strong U.S. economic growth, financial stability and "lasting dollar dominance" during Trump's second term.
"There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S. dollar bills bearing his name, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial," Bessent said.
