[This is a good thread and a lot of trolling and derailing has been cleaned up. -Staff]

Howdy guys. This is my first post on a brand new account, but I have been a Texags lurker since the late 90s, and my daughter is a sophomore in College Station currently. Hopefully that proves my ties to the community enough for some of yall. Anyway, I recently started a Texas history channel on Youtube and just released a video with my idea for who belongs on a Mount Rushmore of Texas. I know there are history buffs in here and I thought it would be fun to see the names debated, and if i get a couple extra views on my channel that would be awesome too. To prove i am not just trying to drive traffic to Youtube, here is my list:
1. Stephen F. Austin
2. Sam Houston
3. Jack Hays
4. Juan Seguin
5. Quanah Parker

I doubt there will be much disagreement about 1 and 2. Interested to see what yall's thoughts are. Oh yeah, politics related because Austin, Houston, and Seguin were all politicians, just a really long time ago (and the history board barely gets any traffic

Here is the video in case anyone is interested in watching: If you do choose to watch it I would love to get some feedback. I am new to the whole video making thing so everything is a learning experience right now. Thanks yall

No injuns, especially no Comanches. They were basically the Manson family on horses. Fully evil and depraved with zero decency.

My idea for the video, my rules. I really just wanted to a top 5 list and figured the Rushmore comparison would make for a cool visual

Austin should be in that list over Travis.

Quanah Parker was most likely born in the Wichita Mountains in what is now the state of Oklahoma.
He lived most of his adult life in in what is now the state of Oklahoma and raided into Texas on a regular basis. He was first buried in Chache Oklahoma and them moved to Fort Sill.

If there is an Oklahoma mt. Rushmore, then I would agree, he belongs there.

I honestly think Sully is worth a mention.

1) he was a force against Commanche, who were downright evil. If you don't believe me that commanche warriors were evil, look up commanche torture techniques. They are some of the most gruesome things I have ever read. Better yet, save yourself the horror and take my word for it. He was a leader of the Texas Rangers when their primary job was commanche killing.
2) when he was elected governor, his primary work was preventing lynching and violence against blacks in general. If there was a lynching in your county, Sully would show up with a militia and remove the entire county government. County judges knew this, we're afraid of him, and generally did not put up with racial violence.
3) he also established a pretty cool military college, and helped establish a pretty cool college for blacks. But, #1 and #2 were more impressive in my book.

If Bowie had lived to see the Republic of Texas, he would have either been forced to flee the country or end up in prison at some point.

Bowie, Travis, and Crockett deserve respect, but their impact was short. Houston and Austin are better choices there.

Willie, Waylon, George are great musicians, but a Rushmore needs people who transformed the industry. Bob Wills and Buddy Holly.

George Mitchell is a good one for the oil industry , but I nominate Carl Cromwell, who drilled "Santa Rita #1"

Ranching: Goodnight, Waggoner, Burk Burnett, King

As much as I despise LBJ, I'm not sure you can leave him off. Native born, military service, stayed in Texas during formative years unlike many others, served in the House, Senate (Speaker), as VP and as President.

There's no other Texan with those accomplishments even if some of his ideas lead to awful results.

If you know LBJ, you know the "military service" aspect is bullcrap

And Mount Rushmore is for positive accomplishments. Most of his deals lead to awful results.
