Aggie Community,
As we continue to monitor events unfolding in the Middle East, I want you to hear directly from me. I know this situation brings concern and uncertainty, specifically for our own students, faculty and staff at Texas A&M University at Qatar.
The safety and well-being of every member of the Texas A&M community - across all our campuses - remains our top priority. We are closely tracking developments through official government sources, including the U.S. Embassy in Qatar, and we remain in regular communication with our leadership team in Doha, Qatar Foundation and our partners in Education City.
At this time, our employees and students in Qatar are following the guidance of the U.S. Embassy and remain sheltered in place, continuing their remote learning. In line with Embassy recommendations, we are making preparations to support their safe evacuation as soon as it becomes possible. Qatar employees and students are receiving regular updates through campus emergency alerts and updates.
Additionally, some of our students, faculty and staff were traveling in or around the region when the conflict began. The university has been in direct contact with each of these individuals and are facilitating their relocation to a safe location.
I recognize that for some members of our community here in the United States, these developments feel especially close to home whether you have family serving overseas, loved ones in the region or personal connections that make this more than a distant event. If you find yourself needing support, please take advantage of the resources available. Students may reach out to University Health Services or Student Assistance Services for support. Faculty and staff can access assistance through the Employee Assistance Program and other available resources.
In moments like this, we lean on our values and on each other. Please join me in keeping our students, faculty, staff, service members and their families in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
Tommy
