American faced with tens of thousands of debt due to stolen identity

This happened to my wife in the early 2000's when she was still in college. It was some hispanic lady (probably illegal) down in the RGV. It ruined her credit for a long time and there was nothing she could do. I couldn't believe how long it took to restore her credit...years. And it didn't restore it to where she should have been, as she has always been timely with debt payments and zero blemishes. Hopefully It's a little more fast tracked now.

I do not think the NYT comes down squarely on the side of the illegal. The article balances the two stories, which of course in a way is a choice in favor of the illegal, because it equates an innocent victim with a criminal who has come very near to ruining his victim's life, not to mention killing another man in a driving accident.

But the fact that the NYT has published an article that in any way suggests that illegals cause problems is quite a victory for people like me who are sick of the pro-illegal propaganda.
