Have you ever read the opinion page of the Batt? Even in the mid 1980s, the editors of the Batt spent tons of ink criticizing Aggie traditions, bemoaning that the student body was comprised of ignorant Reaganite hayseeds, and whining that A&M students of the 80s lacked the "idealism" of the generation of college students from 20 years earlier that changed America. Go read some of the Batt opinion columns calling for the end of Bonfire, referring to the Corps of Cadets as a "fascist fraternity in fatigues," and writing little fictional vignettes about professors getting convicted of teaching free thought and getting sent to the "Franz Kafka prison for enemies of the state." The Batt was useful mostly for cleaning windows and mirrors.

When I was a student, Matt Maddox was the Batt's voice of sanity.

Can confirm it continued through 93 and beyond.

Journalism majors get into 'Journalism' because no one else will listen to their stupid liberal woke ideas. Its 99% liberal in every journalism department, newspaper, MSM, etc. across the world and has been for 40 years. Talk radio is only exception because if you have to actually talk in length about liberal progressive ideas, you soon learn your either lying or just dumb.

A & M maybe missed an opportunity to have a different kind of journalism school than most. Instead chose just to hide amongst all the other weeds

I picked it up for crosswords and coupons in the late 90's. Maybe for Dave Boldt's unassailable relationship advice.

Back when phones were these crazy things that plugged into walls and people talked on them instead of taking them into the bathroom for something to read.

They were always going after Bonfire and anything they considered too traditional or un-Austin. I guess that's how they competed for awards from their little student journo organizations.
