On whether you should be a US Citizen to vote, across Texas 28% of voters said NO, you don't need to be a US Citizen

57% of voters in Travis County said NO
31.8% of voters in Harris County said NO
30.7% in Bexar County said NO

For comparison
25.6% in Brazos County said NO
19.4% in McLennan County (Waco) said NO
19.0% in Lubbock County said NO

Here's the text from the Texas Secretary of State

How in the world are there 1 in 4 people voting in our elections in Texas who think you don't need to be a citizen?

In Austin it's more than half.

Even in Lubbock and Waco, it's still 1 in 5 people who think it's cool to vote in our elections if you're not a citizen.

Although I would bet a few votes were people just voting a blanket No on every proposition without even reading them.

I use to believe permanent legal residents should be able to vote in local elections since those do impact their day to day lives. That view has changed over the last decade, but I can see how others who haven't fully considered the consequences could still hold it.

My AP Gov students did an extensive project on all 17 proposed amendments, and after studying them, voted using sample ballots.

In their sample election, most proposals passed, but a few (6, 17, and interestingly, 12) did not.

This morning, we analyzed the results. More that a few pointed out that the fact that every proposal passed looks like most people didn't know what they were voting for, and voted "for" straight down the ballot.

Also, Travis County voted "against" almost every single prop. Presidio County (Marta - the entire county has a pop of 6k) was the second-most vote "against", but as one of my kids pointed out - it's basically a tiny Austin on the border.

TLDR - Austin is even more liberal than other urban areas in the state, and seems to be aggressively so.

ETA: even Bexar County as a whole voted in favor of prop 16.

Oops. Although, amendments like this don't change anything and are just mealy mouthed Republicans trying to act like they are doing something conservative without actually doing anything while letting rino's run at least half of the legislature and dems chair committees.

Tactically, this is not a problem.

Yep.

I hated reading over each one this weekend, felt like I was back in school, but I wanted to make sure I was informed on each one. Even thought about skipping one or two because I could find reasons to both support and oppose.

People need to be informed about what they're voting on.

I completely missed I had a Bryan ISD board position to vote for, so I skipped it. Didn't matter in the end, it was no where near close and the incumbent got obliterated.

Travis County is California in Texas. Not surprising at all. It's the most left-wing county in the state.

The worst POTUS candidate in history (Kamala Harris) won with 68-29 against Trump in 2024.

Colin Allred beat Cruz 70-27.

That's how stupid people are in Travis County.

All the anchor babies born before 2007 are of voting age now and want more rights for their illegal parents and communities. And illegals often have more kids earlier in life to slowly dilute everyone else's vote. That's why illegal immigration is such a big deal.

Amazingly, my kids had great arguments for and against. This was one of the more hotly contested props.

The prop proposes replacing the two attorney positions on the board with two additional citizens, appointed by the governor and the TX Supreme Court.

One argument in favor is that more impartial (citizen members) would be on the board, reducing the possibility of favoritism or corruption.

An argument against is that the citizens are likely to be tools of the gov/TXSC because they are appointees. They also might not have the legal background of attorneys.
