this is a fantastic movie.

of course the obligatory DEI Obama like President (and @#$@# Angel Reese!) but overall very realistic portrayal of what happens when an ICBM is launched at CONUS

especially the way it would go with the Air Force, STRATCOM, and getting out to the bunker in Pennsylvania / Camp David.

excellent portrayal- and EVERY American should be forced to watch this

and then decide if Alexandra Occasio Cortez is who you want deciding on the US military response to nuclear attack

I'm not going to call Idris Elba a DEI actor for this. He's damn good actor.

I say this w/o seeing the movie yet.

it is a great discussion for the F16 board-

what should the response be if we don't know who fired a ballistic nuclear tipped missile at the USA?

the entire time you have to be thinking:

"what if this happened when Joe Biden was falling off his bike or tripping down the stairs?!?!"

we were so weak it's frankly a miracle no one took a shot at the USA

agreed- not that he was a DEI hire but that of COURSE Hollywood has to show the President as a black person, and one of the major characters is the "strong female"

and the baddy conservative is old white guy.

but that was maybe 5% of the entire movie

what is great about this is it should MAKE ONE THINK THE UNTHINKABLE

what if Trump never acted against IRAN?!?!

Maybe get rid of all those personas you said you would if it happened, as they didn't do their part in stopping it. Give stakes to liquidating any even thinking it or trying to fund it, and it becomes less likely.

Since an ICBM has never been launched at CONUS, how can it be a realistic portrayal?

I think Op's point is that dems are simply not serious people.

The last dem of consequence that was a serious person was Hillary. Much more so than her "husband".

AOC? Mamdani? Jeffries? Tlaib? Omar? Crockett?

None of these people are actually serious people and will get us all killed.

With all of the OPIR capabilities the whole premise of not being able to attribute a launch to a country is quite unrealistic.

I knew I recognized GEN Karbler in one of the scenes in the STRATCOM GOC, he was the STRATCOM chief of staff when I was there. I left before they opened the new HQ but the scene of the STRATCOM CC & J3 walking into the building looked very accurate from what I remember of the facade just before it opened.

I actually didn't really mind the ending personally, I'm much more interested in the depiction of all the processes and how this would all go down but realize I'm probably in the minority here. Although the one thing I could've done without was the SECWAR just walking right off the side of the building. That was a bit over the top.

Also, I suspect a seal hasn't ever carried the football. Could certainly be wrong though.

It's exercised regularly. But surprisingly enough the principals almost never participate.

So many movies are like this now.

1) Something bad happens

2) A few people band together

3) we have no idea what is actually happening, nor who did it, what the outcome might even be, and there is no resolution.

4) movie over.

Is there a missile in flight or is it AI generated?

ETA. The movie was lacking.

It was a great movie up until the end. It wasn't that It was a bad ending. It had no ending.

But the scenario is fascinating. What do you do if you don't know who launched the missile at you? Have to hope our intelligence and intercept capability is better than the movie suggested.

Gotta get that golden dome built pronto.

That was terrible.

Well it as pretty good initially. But got repetitive (we get it it's another perspective of the same stuff happening how clever) and then it was ruined by not having an ending meaning you just wasted 2 hours.

It's really quite simple and the fact that it was portrayed as a dilemma is dumb.

If you literally don't know who fired it you simply cannot retaliate. They should have put everything into bringing it down with interceptors not just two. Fire 2 more and then 2 more. With seemingly a 50% chance of it separating and then a 60% chance of it hitting the missile thats a 30% chance. You gotta fire at least 4 volleys at it to likely assure success. But hell fire 20 at it.

Holding back your 50 interceptors for a larger strike later makes no sense. Because if your response to one missile is to send them all or even just a large number against a suspected culprit who likely did not actually send it then their response is to send 2000 missiles our way and your 50 interceptors don't help at all. Expend them all if needed to stop the one rogue missile.

But if you ride it out (and what is the success rate of one rogue missile?) and then find out who it came from you can make a limited retaliatory strike against whoever actually sent it and tell the other powers that be to stay out of it because you are entitled to respond directly to the culprit. And you don't need your interceptors in that case anyway so saving them back was useless.

You will absolutely know here a ICBM is launched from. Now a localized detonation would be a different story for a little while. They will still be able to tell who al least manufactured the weapon in all likelihood after the detonation.

Second thrirty minutes: guess we're gonna run this back
Third thirty minutes: seriously, again?

^that is it exactly.

and the worst part is there is nothing really gained by the different perspectives that you didn't already know. if those perspectives added anything of value it would be great but they don't. just superfluous things like each of them calling loved ones. meh. the only thing that really happened different and was a surprise was the Sec of Defense...uhhh exit from the situation.

it's really just a vehicle for telling the same 30 minute plot 3 times and getting more name actors in it.

Posted this on the entertainment thread about the movie but this movie was made in the 90's- its called By Dawns Early Light and starred Powers Booth, Rebecca De Morney, and James Earl Jones. It also has an actual ending. While agree the ending of this left much to be desired, the stress and conflict in the first 2 acts was good IMO. I was definitely interested.
