It was surprisingly something like Slate or the Hill that said "Obama was the first trolling President" and that it was he that had disrupted the standard decorum of trying to appear to serve all sides. Bush was the last President to follow the old style, and it spelled this out early in Trump's first term or just before.

We can all easily remember the off-putting totally partisan remarks he would throw out -- couched in the gentile but false arrogance of an Ivy snob -- but insults all the same. Like Hillary's "deplorables." As in most things, Trump is a reaction, not a cause, and a very late-coming reaction.
