Loving County has gone downhill since the Sheriff's wife was killed for the diamond she had on her hand.

ACTHUALLLLLY

It is very relevant. Its small size is why a takeover would be so easy.

I'm pretty sure they intend to raise taxes on business and all but give it to themselves in public spending.

Ok fair. I read the comment in a tone of success and significance. Yes it's small population is the reason something seems amiss.

All the freebies in the world that they could make the county government provide will still be hard to offset the fact that you're living in a hot, dry, remote area. This sounds more like that group that was going to make their own commune in Colorado only to find out that luxuries like water, electricity, and sewer services are hard to live without, not to mention that it's hard to grow crops on the side of rocky hills/ravines.

Correct!!

Quote:

Backgrounding Tanner wasn't hard. Tall, charismatic and a self-described "entrepreneur, philanthropist, educator" and "visionary leader," Tanner leads an organization called Melanated People of Power, which he has described as a movement seeking political and economic opportunity for those traditionally disenfranchised. He boasts a sizable social media presence 244,000 Facebook followers and 70,000 on TikTok. His posts explained Loving County's newcomers.

"I'm out here in Texas. Loving County, Texas," he said in a mid-July Facebook reel viewed nearly 2 million times. "If you want to get a home, and stop paying rent, your mortgage or even the taxes on it, we're going to build y'all a home. Right here. For free. We're hoping to have a hundred homes out here, with the intention of putting 2,000."

Lots of ad valorem tax money because of the oil & gas revenues coming out of the county. That is what they most likely want to control.

Gotta wonder where this Tanner guy is getting all of his money.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Yeah, I'd put my money on the people moving there not staying for very long. Once they realize how barren it is and there is nothing to do, they'll leave.

Jim Jones type personalities able to convince people to live in places that other, wiser people have already learned are unlivable.

Good luck with that.

And good luck with him.

No, this is some guy who is looking to make some money. Gain power, enact laws to benefit yourself and a few key others and then profit. Sounds like the money would be coming from oil perhaps.

They should pre-empt his attempt by merging with a neighboring country. How hard is that to do?

According the the Cron article Loving County budget is expected to be $60m next year. Tanner is claiming he has people including his daughter lined up to run for judge and commissioner.

It also goes on to talk about his other low income properties in Indiana where he owes back taxes and has also sued cities and counties for alleged wrong doings. Any time some one writes something negative or an official comes to investigate he takes legal action. That is something only people do if they are trying to hide the truth.

It will be interested to see if they keep enough people there for the March primary and how the big O&G companies deal woth them if they are elected.

It would be however hard it is to get legislation passed and maybe the constitution amended

Counties are subdivisions of the state. You can't just merge two counties on a commissioners court vote

His situation went well but was too ostentatious and wild. A lot of times these people absolutely can not lay low and be normal when their cults grow.

This idiot doesnt have much money though and bought up a tiny amount of land for dirt cheap prices without water, plumbing or electricity. They might be able to handle the hot west texas summers but if we were to get another brutal winter with days of less than 20 degrees for a week then they're either dying or leaving

Loving county is very sparsely populated for a reason.

They'll figure it out before too long.

Say.... Roughly next summer

Still is whacky. Now owned by a company that uses it for military/leo training if I recall correctly. Crazy to see that temple shining like a light among cedars and mesquites in middle of nowhere west texas

Their only real and viable strategy is to take over local government with numbers, not logic or intellect, then pay themselves with tax dollars while they pillage the very small community for their own benefit. It is the very definition of selfishness because of an inability to provide and produce for yourself

If it's accurate that he bought a couple 5 acre tracts without electricity, water or plumbing then he didn't need much of anything
