AI is nearly indistinguishable from fact (margin for perspective of the photographer and commentary that ads bias).

Vision and touch are the most important senses. Blind and numb is probably better than other way round. Hearing isn't absolutely necessary and taste isn'.

Whatever. Maybe all the senses are probably vital in the pure nature we evolved under. The point is that modern humans hold visual evidence as the key verification and probably the key sense for survival.

The problem is that we have been conditioned to believe what happens across the globe or with the elites are critical in our lives. And, with social media people are consuming more and more. People are more in tune with information than ever. It's the key part of our emotions and discussions.

What's going to happen when we no can no longer trust our eyes for the information we believe so important? Technology can develop potential authentication techniques, but AI will be able to overcome that instantly.
I will no longer discuss politics with you. I reject your premises and world view. I am finished trying to compromise with you.

All I know is that people who thought "TV" was the devil, in the prior century, had no idea what was coming down the pipeline.

Implications are potentially dystopian. However, a start is we may need that "massive fine for falsehood" propagation we have so been lacking for the MSM and politicos more than ever in an AI thing. You would need a way to penalize the "drivers" of the AI in question.

But really, do not have much clue yet how this is going to pan out --- many exciting positive things about (the ability for individuals to make movie quality work and imagery, translations, mass collating of complex data and so forth) , but some extremely scary too. Not least the ability to trust as real a video or picture not somehow attested as existing from prior the AI age.

that'll deter about as much as gun laws deter gun crimes...esp when the cost benefit analysis to our enemies makes it an easy decision.

exactly, good luck with the N Korean bot farms. Not to mention Soros.

And you can bet that "traditional" media (CNN, MSNBC) will be doing "re-enactments". Think George Floyd - "what may have happened". If they have a credible source, frame it as a hypothetical, etc., very difficult to prevent this.

Of course what people are really worried about it is the ability to stir up violence from it. The solution is simple but request some law changes.

Eliminate any tolerance for violence. Adapt free speech absolutism. If you use violence against free speech no questions are asked, you go straight to a chain gang, or if you kill in that violence, disposed of.

Print media will make a comeback

People are already adapting to it. The source of video and who posts it is going to be very important.

Like text, or photos?
Which are even more easily produced by generative AI than video?!

Video and audio proof are now meaningless.

Now everything is a narrative battle.

Our side is under gunned in terms of media.

Edit.

It's gonna be bad. You can tell it's AI in many cases now, but what will it be like in 5 years, in 10? Can't even imagine how good that technology will be then. Truth will be even more elusive than it is now.

It will be customized for each viewer. It will learn what fools us individually and fine tune the deception just for you.

Well, I guess this will be an easy command for Big Bro to force on us if they can just create their own fake evidence from here on out.

Its scary. Have said before my generation (and only those that paid attention) may be the last to know for sure which was and was not an actual record of the time. Because predating when could be faked perfectly; not for lack of bad actors.

I'm concerned about false/edited/fake/manipulated records gradually displacing and burying real media over time. By accident and by intention. People take new things in face value as genuine and save/store/use them as if they were genuine while valid genuine original media gradually gets sidelined, lost, deleted or displaced by "better" versions. We will unintentionally 1984 ourselves.

For different reasons (anti-west "offense" based stuff) as you know, that is happening with movies and some classic reprints. You are getting where you need to keep the DVDs/CDs even VHS of the last century with some movies and copies of classics pre- Y2K.

My 17 year old son absolutely hates AI. He wanted to get into video game design/animation but that's no longer viable. He's still trying to figure out what path to take and law enforcement is his next choice.

Sources will be key.

But they kind of already are.

We need AI to create a season's worth of football games where A&M wins the natty and crushes everybody

A new dark information age is coming...

It will be more and more difficult to know what is and isn't real.
AI will reference AI to create more AI...

This and we know whoever owns the present (AI) will attempt to rewrite the past.

Original hard copies of books, movies, paintings, old magazines, old encyclopedia Britannia's, etc... any hard source information will become more valuable than ever. Look how important a waybackmachine is for the internet even today - how many truths uncovered by going back to find out what has been scrubbed.

The job of Librarians, much like the monks in monasteries during the dark ages, will perhaps become one of the most important roles in this AI future.

Nothing is going to change much. People who believe themselves to be well informed already get all their information based on algorithms for confirmation bias, and it doesn't matter that there is video proof of the opposite.
