Interesting turn of events. The left was all about taking out people for hate speech and censoring. We now see (some) conservatives advocating for this.

The problem is and always was how do you define hate speech or who defines hate speech in order to take action on it. This is a very slipper slope.

I am interested to see how it plays out. Suddenly the left is very interested in freedom of speech. I welcome this...we should all be interested in free speech. Is this a proactive strategy to flip the script on the left with the end result being everyone now cares about free speech?

You just know that Trump and Bondi will over play this. It's one of the most frustrating things about Trump and co. They can't help but overstep or say something stupid.

50 years ago, if you went out on the street and were celebrating the murder of a political figure, you would have been arrested and charged with incitement or violating the peace. Same goes for sticking your middle finger in a cop or teacher's face...... but not anymore.

Free speech is there to convey commentary and opinion on political, religious, and social topics. It is not there to allow obscenity or for you to use in gloating and reveling in the murder of the innocent.

Yes. The only exceptions are "mainstreaming it" from a position of political power. Or what could be called an elected member `platfoming it' --- its still amazing Kamala paying for bail for rioters. That's the kind talking about.

But almost all exceptions center around what is needed - namely stricter accountability from officials--not private figures.

Speech that crosses the line into incitement or fighting words is not protected speech.

The First Amendment doesn't exist to protect speech you like; it exists to protect the speech you don't like.

Trump has a green light in my opinion to do everything he can to end the modern political left.

They killed the most important avatar of Conservatism who wanted to peacefully debate and discuss with them.

I have no more patience for the Left. Let them wallow in the slop they created for themselves.

What isn't protected by the 1st amendment is speech inciting and encouraging violence.

You won't win the left with a nebulous principle. They have abandoned Americanism. Their perversion of free speech is a symptom of a godless postmodernism. Flail away at symptoms all you want, but it's not the winning play.

Hate speech is, and should be, free speech. The first amendment isn't pretty, but it's not there to protect speech you or I like.

Violent speech is not free speech, nor should it be. The problem is specificity and immediacy. Which again is up for debate.

But me saying, "Jerry Jones sucks, lm gonna kill that guy for trading Micah" is free speech.

Me saying, "Jerry Jones sucks, I'm gonna kill that guy tomorrow at 3:00 after practice for trading Micah" is not free speech.

Obviously not a lawyer so I would love to be corrected if my understanding is wrong. And to be clear, I wish no harm on Jerry Jones, I actually have zero interest in the Cowboys and would gladly trade them never winning a game again for one A&M natty.

Free speech has NEVER meant freedom from consequences of said speech.

Until Trump beat Hillary.

Then liberals lost their ever loving mind, and created vast echo chambers where vile speech against the opposition was tolerated, encouraged and celebrated. The MSM joined in with their lies by omission.
That resulted in two assasination attempts on Trump and Charlie Kirk's murder.

People have realized how vile and broken these folks are. It is an ideology of hate and destruction.

Now the pendulum is moving back and people who were so far left are shocked that they are being held accountable for their actions.

Exactly. Bondi using the term "hate speech" was idiotic. Inciting violence is something that can be done publicly or privately, and is not purely a "speech" issue. It's a violence issue. "Hate speech" is just giving a negative opinion of something and should never be criminalized.

It absolutely is there to allow the things you don't like. Westboro Baptist Church can protest a dead soldier's funeral with signs that say "Thank God for Dead Soldiers." And that isn't a conservative or liberal position either, based on how SCOTUS ruled.

There is no such thing as hate speech, there is also no such thing as a hate crime. That is just weak minded excuse making, pandering, and an attempt to make things even worse than they already are.

Regardless, I don't see conservatives arguing any such thing, I see them condemning leftist celebrating the murder of a human for having a different opinion.

Hate speech should absolutely be allowed. There is no point of the first amendment if you do not allow hate speech.

At the same time, no private employer needs to tolerate you as their employee, for this vile speech.

Exactly. Now that every idiot has the ability to impulsively opine on any topic at a moments notice on global platforms, people think that they're entitled to, consequence free.

Freedom of speech, but not freedom from consequence. There's a reason that even the founding fathers who so valued and enshrined that right would also tend to pen political opinions under pseudonyms from time to time, depending on circumstance.

They understood that simply because the government wouldn't penalize them for disagreement, that didn't protect them from suffering the consequence of public disagreement. And those consequences were generally far harsher, and with less recourse back then than they are today.

Ok, i'll re-phrase, speech that might be deemed hateful by anyone.
Or everyone.

Still doesn't matter. Should be allowed. There is no other country where this is true.

My hope is Bondi just made a unforced error and meant speech design to incite violence or something like that which is something I believe Trump mentioned in one of his pressers they were looking into. I hope Trump truly isn't getting into the game of trying to police unpopular speech because he will lose that battle and alienate many in his base. The free market took care of the idiots who celebrated Kirk's death without gov't intervention.

Just my opinion but Bondi is really not good in front of the cameras.

Direct calls to violence is not free speech and the left is doing it constantly. They are also purposefully walking the line to inspire violence. They must be punished in some way.

Even if it starts with just getting them fired and ostracizing them from polite civilized society.

You're going to be waiting a long damn time for justice then. Sure, some will mess up and do something that would be considered incitement. But most wont.

Employers have a right to employ who they want. Equating getting hauled off to jail vs getting let go aren't the same.

Employers obviously can't discriminate but they should have a right to let go folks that publicly approve non-military assassinations

Of course it will get weird in the USA. I publicly told folks I was happy when Osama Bin Laden was killed but that's totally different.
