Armed drones for school shooters

Noice.

I mean, sad that we have to have anything and I still would rather more open and concealed carry on campuses, because I believe that would be a greater deterrent, knowing they can be blown away at any moment, but…

Armed drones designed to neutralize school shooters in seconds are being tested in several Florida districts.

Three districts in Florida will be testing out a series of new drones armed with pepper spray pellets that are specifically designed to thwart school shootings.

Campus Guardian Angel, a Texas-based company that engineered the drone tech system, said that the exact districts will be selected by Florida's Department of Education.

The drones, kept in secure charging boxes on participating campuses, will be operated by FAA-certified pilots located in Texas.

But each drone can be activated by school officials on-site through a silent alarm or "other mechanisms," according to Campus Guardian Angel.

Each drone is equipped with a two-way communication system, alarms, and non-lethal pepper spray pellets, the company said. The drones can also shatter windows with a "glass punch to create distractions," the company said…

…The drones aren't just let loose upon activation, either. The "company commander" is charged with issuing a flight plan and working alongside school officials and law enforcement before engaging, according to the company.

"In a school shooting, most of the death happens in the first 120 seconds, so it's really about how quickly can you get there to engage the shooter," Justin Marston, the founder and CEO of Campus Guardian Angel, told CBS News.

Of course, nothing is fail safe, but it looks like y'all didn't completely read this.

How it will be activated, monitored and piloted.

They're not gonna just randomly send drones up there to go after people.

But we'll have to see how this plays out. Maybe it can deter a few to know something is coming after them.

When your district is 1 of 3 districts in Florida to pilot anti-school shooter drones.

Oh it is definitely where we are going. Schools, malls, colleges, Wal-Mart, anywhere there are vulnerable crowds. The drone in most cases can get there faster and doesn't care if it gets shot in the process.

Just kiddin SRM, you're in my top 2-3 on Texas, for real. Hope it's just a warning and not timeout.

Is it any different than the robots they've used for years when going into an active shooter situation?

It's an interesting concept. We probably need to be thinking outside the box to solve this issue.

Think how the kids uvalde elementary might have had a chance with a drone going in (even with LtL rounds, tear gas, flash bang). since we can't rely on 100 human officers to do their job.

I was completely fine with Dallas PD using a robot to deliver a "candy gram for Mongo" since it was a clear and present danger situation. Obviously where there are hostages or victims you wouldn't use a lethal explosive but point is robots/drones do and can play a role in removing a clear and present danger threat such as a shooter in a school or a mass shooter holed up and armed to the teeth

I'm trying to envision how this would work. Using the Uvalde shooting, how do you think the drone concept would have unfolded? IIRC the shooter was in the building before anyone knew there was a threat. I can't imagine a drone would have been activated before he was in the classroom.
