Early reports are that law enforcement responded to calls that a woman had been shot. That turned out to be a hoax and gunfire erupted.

what is scary is the amount of chaos a 1000 well funded and trained men could cause if they were organized thank goodness none of those kind of guys walked accross the border as part of that 15 million over the last four years.

This is about an hour drive west of me and a lightly populated area. Very surprised at the location given how little crime happens in our area, which is also rural but more heavily populated than Susquehanna County.

Both troopers are in stable condition.

Sounds like it was either a domestic situation (wouldn't be the first time one escalated to an ambush of arriving law enforcement) or the call was simply to setup an ambush. The latter seems more likely, assuming they didn't find another dead body on site.

A 61-year-old man fatally shot a neighbor in rural Pennsylvania on Thursday and then ambushed responding state troopers, wounding two while firing dozens of rounds from a semiautomatic weapon, police said.

Lori Wasko's boyfriend called 911 after 11 a.m. from their home near Thompson to report shots fired, state police Col. Christopher Paris told reporters. Ms. Wasko, 57, was shot and killed outside her home near her vehicle, police said. Police provided no information about a motive in the shooting.

A man identified as Carmine Faino, 61, shot Ms. Wasko and then shot Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins as they were arriving, Col. Paris said. Both troopers were in stable condition with serious injuries Wednesday night, he said.

State police said that Faino shot and killed Ms. Wasko in the driveway of her home shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday. He then opened fire on Troopers Perechinsky and Jenkins when they responded to a report about an injured person.

One trooper applied a tourniquet to the other and a third trooper was able to help rescue them, Col. Paris said. The news release said the two eventually were airlifted to a medical facility for emergency treatment.

Faino then barricaded himself in a barn on his own property, brandishing the rifle he had used to shoot the troopers and the woman who was killed, said Trooper First Class Robert M. Urban, a state police spokesman.

After Faino failed to comply with police orders to stand down, officers shot him in the barn about three hours after the two troopers were shot, Trooper Urban said.

"A coordinated response by multiple Pennsylvania State Police units and local law enforcement agencies led to the establishment of a secure perimeter around the scene," the news release said. "The suspect was armed with a rifle, refused to comply with commands, and was ultimately shot and killed during the incident. There is no remaining threat to the public."

So the shooter didn't call it in, and it was a legit call for help.

Thankfully the police ended his wretched life.
