If Democrats were smart, they would adopt this guy's strategy which is just going back to what Democrats of old used to be. This is pretty much a best case scenario for a Mayor of San Francisco if you are not a Democrat.

He might even convince me to visit again if he keeps this up.

All kinds of "no ****" comments in this article but here a few:

Quote:

He praises District Attorney Brooke Jenkins: "She believes like I do that, if you commit a crime, there needs to be consequences. I know that that might be shocking to say, but we weren't doing that before." Ms. Jenkins has been censured by both the state bar and a state appellate court for overzealous prosecutionsa notable change from her predecessor, Chesa Boudin, the Weather Underground scion who was recalled from office in 2022 for barely prosecuting at all.

He's anti-crime and telling Gavin to pound sand on his positions.

Quote:

He endorsed Proposition 36, a ballot initiative that passed in November, which increased punishment and allows felony charges for more drug and theft crimes, including recriminalization of shoplifting items worth $950 or less. Major California Democrats including Gov. Gavin Newsom and Sen. Alex Padilla opposed the measure, which undid a 2014 ballot initiative, Proposition 47.

Quote:

The mayor has made police hiring a priority.

"Property crime is down 30%. Violent crime is down 20% year-over-year. Car break-ins are at a 22-year low."

Apparently not a Communist dumbass like most of the rest of his party:

Quote:

While San Francisco mayors are required by law to submit a balanced budget, "we had a practice of spending one-time dollars on ongoing expenses and just hoping and hoping that the state and the feds would come to the rescue," Mr. Lurie says. With the state of California in a $12 billion deficit and the federal government bigger by two orders of magnitude, Mr. Lurie is clear that the practice will have to end. "No one's coming to save us, so San Francisco needs to save itself," he says. "Some people think we can just keep spending dollars."

Just a reminder on Chesa Boudin. His parents were indeed members of the Weather Underground, convicted of murder during a bank robbery when he was a small child. Since they were locked up he was raised by Bill Ayers, Obama's bombing buddy.

dems need to pay a price for decades of ignoring the obvious and destroying once great cities. Every single one of them needs to elocute their guilt, and leave in shame.

Maybe he can clean the place before more of the tax base flees.

Actions speak louder than words. Never trust reasonable words espoused by a Politician, Muslim, or Democrat.

I agree but he's about the only Democrat I've seen publicly state common sense in the past several years. And that's because they let one of the most beautiful and unique cities in the USA go to absolute ***** They hit rock bottom and how common sense and critical thinking prevail.

We can check back in a year and see how they are doing.

I used to love visiting San Francisco. But the last time I went to SFO I couldn't get out of town fast enough. Democrats have turned a once great city into a literal **** hole.

Telling that it's viewed as some remarkable bravery for a democrat politician to say that criminals should be held accountable and punished

Unfortunately, this "Democrat" will not last to long in an ocean that is occupied by liberal, insane, "progressive", Democrats with no common sense that see the Mayor as a DINO, thusly a traitor to the cause in helping destroy the country.

It's shocking to say that you should be penalized if you commit a crime?

That's the liberal mindset and is why they should be laughed out of any discussion.

Yep. I'll never believe anything any of them say without seeing matching actions. They lied about amnesty in the 80s. They've only gotten more unethical since then.

The democrat party is a marxist party. Anyone still voting democrat knowingly votes for marxists.

Conservatives stay pretty consistent on crime because it's one of the few areas where conservatives look to government. Liberals are a pendulum. Defund the police was an extreme. It has swung back. Don't forget NYC was a total hellhole in the 80's till even enough D had enough and Giuliani cleaned it up. The pendulum has swung back from that. Once there's enough crime or a high profile socialite liberal is the subject of a heinous crime, it will swing back.

NYC is about to elect a full blown Marxist as mayor. That's never happened before in this country. The pendulum is still swinging hard left. If it does swing back, it won't look like conservatism because the center of the swing range is so far left now. It'll be like Mexico from now on, swinging hard left to radical left.

The mayor may be being clever here by his moderate speech, but make no mistake the dems are liars and deceivers. There is no moderation in them. They want it all! Complete power and government control over every aspect of life.

There has been a bit of an awakening on the part of conservatives to push back on this madness the left is bringing to our culture. But you're right, the remaining leftists are pushing even harder left.

The root of the problem is that conservatives have waved the surrender flag and conceded all big cities to the leftist mob. "We're a flyover country party". Suburbs and rural areas. In reality the large cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Houston) control 80% of the wealth in the country and are the drivers of art, culture, and media. Those things matter. Red states can use their purse strings to affect change (cut off state funds to sanctuary cities, request additional federal prosecutors when Soros-funded DA's legalize widespread criminality). Businesses in those cities can insist that local officials deal with crime and homelessness, or move to jurisdictions that will. And conservatives still living in those places can push back against the antifa-jihadi coalition that is bound and determined to destroy our cities permanently.

I actually liked the airport. It was relatively efficient and easy to get through. Not sure why that's relevant to this discussion though, as it is in South San Francisco.

Agree with all that say actions matter and they do here. Democrats can't be trusted.

What I will say though is that this mayor sounds like the Dallas mayor before he switched parties from Dem to Republican. This guy may be a wolf in sheep's clothing for the good guys.

We shall find out. This will be interesting to monitor.

San Fransisco is the epicenter of the AI boom.
His tax base is probably never better.
