Not to take away from Texas flooding but if you know anyone in NC….

IMMINENT DAM FAILURE in Taylortown, North Carolina.

Life threatening flash flooding is possible for areas downstream from the farm pond. If you're in a low-lying areas along Joes Creek between Taylortown and Whispering Pines, NC, move to higher ground.

The Taylortown Council, Town Manager, and Taylortown Police Department has been notified by Moore County Emergency Management and Village of Pinehurst Fire Department of a life-threatening flash flood expected from the failure of a farm pond at the head of Joe's Fork.

All state and local law enforcement officials are monitoring the situation. An order to evacuate may be issued during the night. If you have seniors, children, or anyone physically challenged, you may want to evacuate now.

If you need assistance with evacuation or discover rising water near your home or business, please contact Taylortown officials at 910-295-4010 Ext. 2 or call 911.

Images starting to come out look fairly bad.

Remnants of a tropical storm came ashore today. There hasn't been widespread rain across the state, but it looks like it may have been heavy in isolated places.

Looks like up to 12in a short period in some locations. Chapel Hill is currently having water rescues.

I'm an hour away from there, and we've gotten nothing but drizzle all day.

Storms are definitely strange. I was 2 miles from a town that got 3in in 1 hour and I only got a few drops.

Perhaps a designation for a private pond/dam construction as opposed to a public works reservoir?

ETA - Google search results for "what does "farm pond" designation mean in NC"

If you follow Joe's Fork in Taylortown, at the head is a small pond about 200 feet in diameter. It looks pretty derelict and I suspect is the pond in question. Certainly smaller in scale than Helene or Kerr County, but if breached it would put lives and property downstream at risk.

Across the highway is a larger pond called Blue Pond that also looks to drain into Joe's Creek. It looks to be part of a development, not a "farm pond". It looks to be part of a residential development, and at least from satellite views appears to be maintained.

Farm ponds can be pretty large and if there is a enough water to wash out a dam that will make a bad situation that much worse
