There was a time not very long ago when a foreign government officially calling for and plotting the assassination of our president would have resulted in widespread, near uniform support for invading, destroying and salting the earth with the ashes of the conquered.

Kind of a sweeping statement about "Muslims." Depends a lot on what country, what sect, educated/uneducated, and so on. You might be surprised at the level of sophistication of many, just like any other people. That said there are many Muslim religious ideologues and fanatics who manipulate the people for their own ends.
