Neuralink is the most incredible of all of Elon's companies

It may not get the most press but what they are doing at Neuralink is absolutely incredible. So many things are happening so fast it's hard to fathom honestly with the ability to truly unlock the power of the brain. This is an hour but watching the Summer update of what they are doing is almost science fiction. A few highlights:

  • They are up to 7 patients (4 paralyzed and 3 with ALS) and accelerating.
  • They have a non verbal ALS patient who can now speak.
  • They have multiple patients that can play complex games like Call of Duty purely with their mind.
  • They have a patient who is paralyzed that is now able to operate a basic robotic arm and they are about to have him able to use a full Optimus robotic hand. Eventually they will be able to operate a full robot.
  • Next year they are going to have their first Blindsight patient (they have had it working in animals for 3 years) that will allow a blind person to have low resolution vision. Next is full high resolution and then they will eventually have enhanced abilities similar to Jordy from Star Trek.

That's just a fraction of what he is doing with just a few hundred employees, there is so much more. The vision Elon has for what they can do and how the tech can help humanity is mind boggling.

Anybody 40 and below likely won't have to suffer from alzheimer's or dementia or any other major brain disorder

Thank you Elon and billionaires.

Neurolink isn't the only company. There's others working on more disorders.

They will cure Parkinson's sooner or later.

Surprised Micheal J. Fox isn't involved with one of these companies. I'd love to see him cured

He is a quirky, enigmatic, maybe even at times unstable, dude.

But his contribution to America and humankind in general is mind blowing.

I've tried but I can't really find anyone historically to compare him to.

Einstein or Franklin might be the last ones to contribute as broadly across science and general advancement

He's definitely an incredibly unique talent

True but Elon has the talent and the money and the resources like no one else. Most importantly though he has the vision and business sense to go with being a true genius to actually make it all work. He's not just talking about it he's actually delivering.

This stuff is amazing, but it is going to raise some pretty significant ethical questions. Listen to Steve Bannon's interview with Ross Douthat to get an idea of what Bannon thinks Elon's plans for humanity are.

The crazy thing about Elon isn't that he is the richest man in the world. The crazy thing is if/when he decides to take Space X, Neuralink, Starlink, and X public his wealth would probably increase tenfold in short order. If any of those companies allow you to buy shares publicly you are crazy not to want to buy in.

Hard to believe people listen to Bannon for more than a couple of minutes and don't come away thinking "that's a genuinely sketchy and dishonest person."

Elon has some screws loose compared to the average person. And because of that, he is able to dream and imagine more than 99.9999% of the population.

He got $170M from PayPal when he was like 31. Most people would call it quits and live the good life after that.

Instead, he decides to reinvent the auto industry and the space industry at the same time. Literally beating out NASA. Uses SpaceX to start the whole Starlink endeavor. while working on everything above with Neuralink. And the hyper loops as a little side project. While messing with X and politics over the last 24 months.

You may think he is a crazy guy or dislike him, but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone as influential on the modern world and changing the course of the next century.

Elon is a brilliant visionary that has a gift for surrounding himself with fellow geniuses and innovating/solving big problems. He's a unique person, with traits of Franklin, Hugh's, and Henry Ford combined into one person. I don't know if there's any single person that has advanced human knowledge and capability in total more than him in the past hundred years, and he's still a relatively young man. He's certainly a remarkable person to follow and observe.

For us ex-military (and other groups) one thing Elon is trying to cure with this is tinitus. So the eventual appeal might be pretty wide. He says 3-5 years, but then he is always a bit optimistic on timelines (example FSD).

Dunno about that one. Among other advancements, whoever first figured out we might be getting sick from tiny creatures we can't see being spread around in filth (or for that matter, that we can inject ourselves with dead versions of those things to protect ourselves from them) probably deserves a shoutout. Imagine not knowing if you would die in your thirties or earlier because of "the air," "the doctor (with dirty hands) couldn't save him," "just cause" or not. That was not uncommon until very recently in human history.

Elon's accomplishing great things, but he's standing on the shoulders of giants, just like everyone before him.

I would say George Soros is probably more influential. And it's not a compliment to him. Praying for the day the world's free from his schemes (not praying for his death, just his downfall).

It's certainly the company whose director of operations and special projects has been impregnated by Musk the most times.

Comparing Shotwell and Zilis I think we know which company Elon takes more seriously. That's not to say neuralink isn't pretty cool, but it's worth a fraction of his other going concerns and appears to have been used as a reward.

It's good to be the king.

thats the amazing part to me. there are easily many people who could either lead a company, be a visionary, or have business acumen,, but his ability in all three: to be visionary, yet a capable business man, coupled with his organizational abilities to create, staff, and organize companies are what truly sets him apart.

Agree with this. It is remarkable technology that could help a lot of brain trauma/brain diseased individuals, but you don't have to look to hard to see how it could be used for nefarious purposes as well.

This will be mainstream common technology like the cell phone in 50 years. The potential benefits are too great and those without will be left in the dust. Not saying good or bad, just reality.

What has this guy done since getting rich?
