They grow up thinking they should start with what took their parents lifetimes to build. It is the stress of unrealistic expectations. Instead of looking at reality they look at what they think should be.

Not discounting current difficulties, but this generation is not the first to face challenges. You can clearly see they never knew anyone who lived through the 30s
God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

I can't think of a single person on earth who is currently thinking, "This is exactly where I thought I would be in life at this point."

I think it was same segment that colleges are offering "Adulting" classes and they are heavily attended.

People were *****ing about quarter life crises 20 years ago. Every generation thinks they're the first to experience any mismatch between expectations and reality.

One thing that has fed these unrealistic expectations is the housing many of these kids had during college. I was in college in the early 80s, and lived in roach-infested, nasty apartments. My friend 12 years older than me lived in Hart Hall without A/C when he was at A&M.

Most of the kids now live in very nice apartments or dorms. Some of these apartments are like living on a cruise ship.

Good for them, I'm glad they can enjoy it. But after graduation, when reality hits, it shakes their world.

Nothing new but 25 is about right. I've just been through this with my youngest kid.

Especially for girls, 25 is about when they figure out that all that college didn't result in the lifestyle they've been watching on Instagram.

Paying bills sucks, having to support yourself sucks. Especially now after Covid, relationships suck, meeting potential mates sucks, nothing is as good in reality as it appears online.

The one thing I will give girls credit for is that they don't seem to be killing themselves at the rate that young men are committing suicide. Now maybe that's always been the case, I've never looked into it. But, I just got done watching one of my friends last weekend, celebrate the life of her son because it's been two years since he killed himself.

Nevermind the news media's nonstop spreading of doom and gloom about the future - Global Warming, Donald Trump, etc., etc.

It's tough for them out there right now.

This is a product of spending the majority of their lives on social media and having an unrealistic expectation that everyone their age is a millionaire and enjoying their annual vacations to Fiji and Dubai in their 20s. People are a lot happier when they're not constantly comparing themselves to some instagram "model" (OF model more likely) or some dude that is 6 figures in debt telling you how to "get rich".

Work hard, make smart decisions, and understand the payout for your efforts may be 5-10-20 years away. Can't always get it now.

Social media is to blame for comparison and unrealistic expectations. Cut it out of your life.

I tell college grad kids who are struggling to go join the service, go to OTC, become officer if you want.
Their Mommas step in and say no, "he might get killed". I say, join the Navy or Air Force then, they say "No, he might be stationed far away".

the biggest difference between previous generations and this one is not the difficulties or burnout it's that they are big ******* who can't hack it. they have been so spoiled they have no grasp on reality. i share with my kids pictures and stories of when my wife and i first started dating. how poor we were, how we qualified for govt apt, had 50 dollars for groceries for a whole week. they see what we have now, i show them what we had when we started. they are always shocked but to me the two most important things you can teach your kids are as follows.

teach them about jesus and show them how to work

faith and a good work ethic will take you far in this life. and teach you to value the blessings you receive.

Like you say this is how it's always been. The difference now is that names are given for everything and every time a lib sheds a tear we have to hear about it.

Yes, but our politicians and CEOs also sold out the country to foreigners just to enrich themselves. They personally benefited at the cost of everyone else. So it isn't easy as it was in the 1950s where 1 income could buy a house and a car and pay bills. Until recently it was 2 incomes needed. Now even that isn't good enough.

Thank God I became an investor. That seems to be the only way to keep one's head above water and have a decent life. My friends with 2 incomes but no investing are struggling with mortgage, bills, loans, kid's college tuition etc.

Don't worry about that. Our politician will ship in more people from India, Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia, Pakistan to carry society for us. After all we are the Kings of Outsourcing.

Nothing new about investing being a required part of living comfortably. It's not someone else's fault.

I know a girl like that. She has lived this extremely cush life. Dad is a doc. Has never had a job. She is about to graduate from tu with some generic, worthless degree. She lived the sorority life. She doesn't want to go out into the real world so she is pushing her parents to let her get her Masters. I think they are going to do it.

Unless this girl gets married, she is in for a slap in the face once her parents cut her off. Her lifestyle is going to change significantly.

So it is someone else's fault your friends are probably living beyond their means and likely financially illiterate?

Other generations definitely had it much harder than the current 20s do (in other areas), but to act like the cost of living & housing isn't much higher now than it was in previous decades seems pretty tone-deaf.

It is well known that the entire West is going through a Cost of Living Crisis, just look at Canada and the UK in addition to the U.S. This is largely due to governing incompetence in all three countries.

Some make the case that it was a shift among Gen Z that played a significant role in getting Trump elected here. It is now the Trump Admin's job to help solve this problem for Gen Z. If they don't, the current 20s will likely try the other party. And this is coming from someone who works full-time in the conservative movement and will likely vote conservative my whole life. But if Gen Z by and large can't afford a house or to raise a family, it's not really something to laugh at IMO, as it was probably avoidable.
