When we think of materially supporting a terrorist organization, usually we think funneling money to the Middle East. Not so with these guys. They were allegedly importing oil into Texas which had been stolen from the Mexico state oil company.
The oil had allegedly been stolen by the cartel and sold to this company, who imported it into Texas under false labeling. Not only did this company get the oil at a discount, the fraud also allowed them to pay lower taxes on the import as they were mislabeling the crude oil as a waste product.
Another example of cartels making money outside of the drug industry.
The Trump administration designating the cartels as foreign terror organization means this crime just got a lot more serious for these Texans.
