This article is kind of clickbaity

I didn't realize this was a pervasive problem. TLDR, Texas has seen a trend in fake driver's licenses coming out of Mexico carried by people who were actually coming from father down south. Apparently there is a racket in Mexico to get fake Mexican equivalents of CDL. Chinese manufacturers can provide a fairly good knockoff of the materials for license, and all the Mexicans have to do is provide a picture. Some of them don't even bother faking a picture background and just use a photo from in front of their house. Thought some sort of reciprocity, these folks are getting Texas CDLs. Folks down at the DMV weren't noticing, but DPS has started catching on to this scam.

God forbid they go after paper license plates.

They already went after paper plates. Moving to temp metal plates in July.

Hmmm. They must have skipped San Antonio. I still see fake-looking and/or expired ones all over the place

I can't believe my eyes when I drive thru the southeast and see (I think in Alabama) a ton of cars with plates that just say "TAG APPLIED FOR." Can't even imagine the level of abuse that kind of system would get in Tejas.

Everywhere in Houston too...it's basically an identifier that allows one to narrow the driver down to 1 of 2 races from afar, with almost 100% certainty.
