Today, Mar 25 is EQUAL PAY DAY.

This is when all the ladies on LinkedIn come out and tell us about how hard it is to be a woman. How no one appreciated all the hard work they do. How it is soooo easy to be a man.

Equal Pay Day highlights stalled pay gap progress: 'Women are never, ever going to catch up,' researcher says

Key Points

  • Equal Pay Day marks just how far into the new year full-time female workers have to keep working to make what their male counterparts made in just the previous year, also known as the gender pay gap.
  • Women in the U.S. who work full time are still typically paid 83 cents for every dollar paid to men.
  • At this rate, it could take 134 years to close the global gender pay gap, according to estimates by the World Economic Forum.

For decades, women have faced an uphill battle in the workplace.
Even now, although women are achieving increasing levels of education and representation in senior leadership positions at work, there remains a stubborn pay gap and promotion gap.

Equal Pay Day which this year falls on March 25 is a reminder of the persistent income inequality between men and women. The date marks just how far into the new year full-time female workers have to keep working to make what their male counterparts typically made in just the previous year.
As it stands, women earn just 83 cents for every dollar earned by men, according to an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data by the National Women's Law Center.

Over time, the inequality is magnified. Based on today's wage gap, a woman just starting out will lose up to $1 million over a 40-year career, according to the Center's research.
"When you look at it by race and gender, that disparity is even wider," said Jasmine Tucker, the National Women's Law Center's vice president of research. "This means that women are never, ever going to catch up."

Quote:

In fact, it could take roughly five generations to close the pay gap worldwide, according to 2024 estimates by the World Economic Forum.
"Based on current data, it will take 134 years to reach full parity," the latest global gender gap report said.

In Northern America, despite achieving equality in educational attainment, there are still wide disparities in earned income and women's representation in senior leadership positions, the report found.
"Where diversity, equity, and inclusion [DEI] efforts are longer lasting, the returns follow," the World Economic Forum report also said. In the U.S., at least, many of those efforts are now being pared back or scrapped entirely to reflect a new political reality and the priorities of the Trump administration.

Why the pay gap persists
There is no single explanation for why progress toward narrowing the pay gap has mostly stalled, according to a separate 2023 report by the Pew Research Center.
Women are still more likely than men to pursue careers in lower-paying industries, and to take time out of the labor force or reduce the number of hours worked because of caretaking responsibilities often referred to as the "motherhood penalty." Systemic bias has also played a role, Pew found.

Long-term consequences of inequity
"The most important part is not just that [women] make less, it's what that turns into the wealth gap," said Cary Carbonaro, a certified financial planner and managing wealth advisor at Scottsdale, Arizona-based Ashton Thomas.

Not only do women earn less than men, but women also save less each month and feel less optimistic about their long-term financial standing.

Quote:

Heading into 2025, women were contributing $1,825.18 a month, on average, to their various savings accounts, while men contributed $2,352.34, according to New York Life's 2025 Wealth Watch survey.

Over the course of the year, women aim to save $9,463.98, on average, compared to the $17,963.13 that their male counterparts aim to put away, the report found.

They also tend to invest more conservatively, other research by Wells Fargo also shows.
Together, that contributes to a significant savings shortfall.

Although there is no immediate solution to achieving pay equity, there are some measures that can help women shore up their economic standing, Carbonaro said.

"Step one is a budget: what's coming and what's going out," she said. "Spend less than you make. It's so basic, but it's the most important building block to securing your financial future."

They should seek more desirable career paths then. You can't water down the average with all the worthless humanities degrees and then ***** that men who took harder jobs make more.

What a completely worthless stat since it's apples to oranges. My female doctor most likely puts way more into her savings every month than I do. It's got nothing to with gender and everything to do with what field you're in.

Also, none of these studies control for time actually worked, and they never have. The argument these lunatics are making is that a woman working 20 hours a week should be making the same amount of money and contributing the same amount to savings as a man with the same job working 40 hours a week. It is grade A bull****

Women don't want to catch up, largely. They tend to choose a category of career or employment options that are more satisfying or interesting to them BUT a LOT of them choose the same categories, more than demand for their labor at high compensation rates. Women flood the teaching occupation because it is aligned on their personal goals and their goals for hours and free time but that keeps wages lower, as the supply more easily meets demand.

Demand for highly technical STEM educated labor is very high because it can generate big returns, but qualified supply is limited, and is mostly male. This is for two reasons: self selection is the biggest: most females find working on things relatively boring or unsatisfying so they don't chose to be an engineer or programmer or lab technician or whatever. Males much more often like that kind of material and actually are motivated to pursue it, meaning they practice it outside the classroom and workplace informally for fun. They get better at it by much more time in application. Building gaming computers or designing some project in the garage or programming something with some friends.
The second reason is not PC but the data is definitely there: the male IQ distribution curve is flatter. Fewer cluster around the mean, unlike females, but more are at the extreme tails, low and HIgh, and the effect at the tails means there are a considerably larger number of very high IQ males than very high IQ females in the population. (Low IQ ones, too, but not applicable for high paying occupations). That means there are simply more qualified high end male income earners in areas that compensate exceptional intelligence.

There are a record number of women in Executive, Managerial, and Administrative positions yet they still can't eliminate that "gender pay gap". Why do women hate each other?

The $.77 figure is BS. The video above explains why. They also don't account for Overtime which also skews men. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that for the same work/same time put in, that women would actually be favored in corporate America thanks to DEI.

It doesn't even consider how much money women spend on shoes. Obviously they will have less money than men to save.

No and it's a log cabin style house. Carpenter bees everywhere. Also a little pesticide I sprayed to inhale.

Yeah, what's with that?

I own:
1 pair stockman's boots
1 pair work boots
1 pair hiking boots
1 pair "nice" running shoes
1 pair "yard" running shoes
1 pair "nice" flip flops
1 pair "don't care what happens to them" flip flops
1 pair water shoes
2 pairs dress shoes
1 pair of Keen sandals that I haven't seen in 2 years

And I think that's decadent overkill, though each pair serves dedicated purpose .

It takes my wife 20 minutes to decide which pair of shoes to wear and I'm expected to provide my thoughts on which pair after a mini-fashion show. And God forbid she decides to go with a different outfit, because then we gotta start the shoe show all over again.

This chick delivers a long lecture. But I see that she is a CEO. I looked at her company, she has about 35 people at Scynx.

Why isn't she posting what she has done for women at her company (since she has to find the money to pay the women more)

She tells others what to do. Even makes a checklist. But does not say what she has already done as a female CEO.

Why is it so hard to understand it's not about what you're worth. It's about what the job is worth and how much your employer is willing to spend to retain you in that job.

I wonder how much of a gap there would be if those making over $300k a year and more were eliminated from the equation? In every company and agency I've worked at where the top bosses max out under $300k a year both males and females are in that level of income.

Wait a second - the claim is they are earning $0.80 for every dollar men earn for the same job? And yet they say this:

Quote:

There is no single explanation for why progress toward narrowing the pay gap has mostly stalled, according to a separate 2023 report by the Pew Research Center.

Women are still more likely than men to pursue careers in lower-paying industries

So it's NOT the same job. In fact, if you dig deep enough, you'll find these studies have job categories like "professional office work", where aerospace engineers are considered the "same job" as teacher.

Also - 80%, huh?

365 days (0.80) = 292 days
365-292 = 73 days into the year

73rd day of the year is March 14.

Maybe lack of accuracy in calculations is another reason they make less.

What this lady doesn't bring up is that men are much more willing to quit and go somewhere else if they don't get the $$$ they want. It's why she advocates for not rewarding people who negotiate better (men). Men are better at negotiating (on average) because they're less averse to quitting and going someplace else.
