Is anyone doing this? Seems like dumbest idea in a long time. Personally I'm going shopping that day when stores won't be as crowded. Otherwise, Americans saving money will be one of the best things they've done to help their financial situations. Our savings rate is too low. They ought to call it 'saving for our retirement' day. Have it once a month or week.

If they're just spending that money on a different day... it's not a boycott. Chalk it up to another example of liberals not knowing the basic definition of things.

Are we boycotting gas stations too? I thought we only did that when oil above $100 a barrel.

Boycotts are so stupid. If someone sells a product that is good quality that I need, I'm buying it no matter who they voted for. The people that suffer are the workers that lose their jobs based on their bosses decisions.

I had to look this up. This is specifically aimed at companies that have ended their DEI programs.

https://www.axios.com/2025/02/25/economic-blackout-february-28-peoples-union

So where will there be less grimy people shopping tomorrow? Pretty weak boycott.

Quote:

The Feb. 28 economic blackout calls on consumers to avoid all unnecessary purchases, either in-person or online, from midnight Thursday through midnight Friday.

  • "No Amazon, No Walmart, No Best Buy," The People's Union USA website reads. "Nowhere!"
  • It further urges participants not to spend money on fast food, major retailers or gas, and to avoid using credit or debit cards to make nonessential purchases.
  • The blackout makes an exception for buying "essentials of absolutely necessary" like medicine, food or emergency supplies but urges consumers to make those purchases at small, local businesses.

The People's Union USA has other targeted economic actions planned for after the blackout. These include weeklong blackouts against specific retailers, including Amazon, Nestl and Walmart.

If I recall, LULAC attempted to do something like this 10-15 years ago. They wanted to "show the economic power of the latinx buyer" or some such nonsense. HEB posted an article showing that, in fact, the daily sale were down around 4-5%. But HEB also noted that "shrinkage" (I.e. theft) was down something like 85%.

Go for the trifecta of purchasing alcohol, tobacco, and at least one firearm on Feb 28. Three firearms also count for those who abstain from alcohol and tobacco.

I will be on the golf course tomorrow, not shopping. So I will be doing my part.

I will declare my boycott on double bogeys loud and clear on the first tee. Only pars, bogeys, and triple bogeys for me. Washed down with a couple cold ones.

I wouldn't equate the two. I left Disney and haven't spent another dime with them. All these idiots are doing is shifting what day they STILL spend their money with them.

Disney and Budweiser actually worked because they involved sustained buying patterns. People watch a lot less Disney and go to the parks far less. I know I haven't had a Bud Light since the boycott and it was my main beer prior. Both companies have taken big financial hits and made significant policy adjustments while serving as a warning to others. In short the boycotts have been very effective.

A 1 day general boycott of multiple companies though? It's a perfect boycott for a virtue signaling liberal. It's easy to do and something they can talk about and feel like they participated in but also is completely ineffective. It's not sustained and it's not targeting one company. It's one day so people just buy stuff the day before or after. So it's completely ineffective but allows for the loons to feel like they did something. The few naive fools that actually think it does something will then get to feel even more hopeless when they see zero impact.

All this shows is just how much ground the Left has lost and how badly they are losing.

I've been so disconnected from media the last few weeks that I didn't even know this was a thing. I have zero interest in boycotts. I think it's stupid when either side does it. Personally, I'm heading to Austin tomorrow to talk with some legislative reps about the state of education in Texas.

When a particular business I like it targeted for a boycott, I make sure to do some extra business there. I'm not sure how to handle an economy-wide boycott. Probably just go about my business like any day and maybe enjoy fewer people in the store.

I think the difference is they're boycotting everything for one day, so no impact at all.

Lots of those that object to Disney, Bud Light, the NFL, etc. are sticking to that. It's not EVERYONE, so there's not major impact, but it's not just a single-day thing. It's an actual boycott.

This.

It's just feel good protesting that never does anything.

I remember when the left did this when W was president and they didn't buy gas on a certain day thinking, "they'll show him and big oil."

They didn't stop using their vehicles, so big oil still got theirs when the libs filled up a few days or weeks later.

boycotting a company that is pushing transgender ideology and sexual perversion on children who are less than 5 is not the same as boycotting companies that ended actual racism/DEI. one is moral the other is beyond stupid.

the people that believe this are not smart.

All the government spoiled children are lying on the floor kicking & screaming in a tantrum because things are not going their way.

It is difficult to comprehend just how badly the government and the legacy media have spoiled the Democratic Party and society's elites/globalists or vice versa.

They are also overlooking another basic fact. The number of consumers rather than activist and reporters types who want the destructive quota and identity agenda maintained are probably far, far fewer than the number who hated the perverse gender bender agenda. In other words, the purchases lost not even in the same ballpark, so not comparable boycotts.
