I thought the proposal was to eliminate taxes on SS distributions?!

What does it do?!

Guessing the stuff dodge dug up on all the wasteful SS spending on non seniors and this way it will limit the breaks to seniors only? Just a wild guess tbh.

They are about to double the national debt

Reducing tax rates helps stimulate the economy which increases revenues as long as it is done right.

Reducing fraud and waste reduces costs.

Not sure how passing a balanced budget resolution increases the national debt.

The budget isn't balanced though. Congress needs to cut more spending.

ETA: They're increasing the debt ceiling by $4 trillion because there's still more outflows than inflows.

Seems like seniors are now paying for the "dead beat" kids now, though taxation. If you cut senior taxes then the kid's will need to find a job.

Well, the continuously increasing debts have been while the seniors were younger. They are a huge part of creating the problem. Now, they want "relief" and continued adding to the debt.

And no taxes on overtime - that's bull***** If you do that many hourly employees will stay in the zero taxes paid. It's only when their income gets great enough via overtime that they actually pay some taxes.

And I manufacture products in the USA. I'll believe the tax breaks for US companies producing product in the US when I see it.

I'll never understand the no tax on tips or overtime. It's income. Why should it not be taxed?

Exactly. If we are going to pay income taxes. Everyone's income needs to be taxed without exception.

We already have far too many people not paying. Why on god's green earth would we want to further compound that major problem?

As an employer with many hourly workers if they don't pay taxes on overtime, I know I can game that system so I pay them less but they make it up in no taxes on overtime. As you say, it's income, so tax it. And what about bonuses? Is that next for no taxes?

Flat tax for everyone!

You two get it. This exempting this and excluding that, differing rules for different people, etc. is part of the reason we got such a complicated income tax system and 300 word sentences in the code.

Is " no tax on overtime " only for the premium time portion or for the whole " time and a half ?

Because the ruling party is a populist one, not a conservative one.

The devil is in the details. Also, time and a half could easily become double time and set a lower hourly.

Boomers leaving us final gifts on the way out, what's the point these govt cuts if we're increasing the deficit? We need to decide if we're serious or not. Unfortunately if want to make an impact on the debt everyone is going to lose a little bit from a program they like, otherwise it's kabuki and wasting time.
These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. That you carefully picked the magic words tells me you do know how it raises the debt. This is all accounting gimmicks and unrealistic assumptions to yield the right CBO score to pass the senate as a reconciliation bill. It will not match spending to revenues, which is what it actually means to balance the budget.

Oh, and it will probably be inflationary as hell, too.

Just divide the debt equally amongst all adult Americans and garnish wages until we are at $0.

Problem solved.

Yeah, kind of like student loan debt which we never applied for. We are sitting at $106,000 per US resident. I figure that at a rate of $200 per resident per month= $840 billion per year. in 40 years or so we could pay that sucker down to a balanced budget.

That's it. $106k? Damn, I'd kill to pay that much in fed income taxes this year.

Let's get this paid off.

Then, MFers would stop supporting the entitlement state when they realize they have to actually pay for it. Not just people like me.
