So now he can stay on for the rest of his term and be purposefully obstructive toward Trump just like John McCain did because he doesn't have to worry about reelection AND he can't be given the boot and replaced with a special election.

That is what he is going to do. Mark my words. Wonder who gave him one final giant payout to ensure he is obstructionist AF on his way out the door.

Trump needs to bring him into the white house and make it clear that he needs to vote with the party for the rest of his term or he is going to be audited out the wazoo and if so much as a penny that McConnel has is not accounted for he will bring the full force of the IRS down on him.

The ego of these guys.

Like McCain, he will probably pick one opportune time to f over Trump, then kill over, and they will traipse his corpse across the Country for weeks on end talking about what a wonderful human being he was - when he was nothing but a grifting, china loving sometimes useful DC swamp rat.

The only way around it is for Trump to bring him into the Whitehouse and make it clear that if he does that Trump will make it the mission of the IRS to audit every cent he has ever looked at and force him to hire an army of CPA's and tax lawyers to defend himself giving him 4 years of utter misery the likes of which he has never seen before.

I am generally not a fan of lawfare but the number of times this has happened is unaccepthe'll. And McConnel is a part of the system so it would be just and righteous for him to get charged with any indiscretions he committed while in office.

And there is absolutely no way that McConnel is clean as a whistle. He has been in politics long enough that there is dirty money somewhere.

If he wants to retire gracefully then let him go. If not dig up all the dirt there is and make his life hell.

I am also peeved about Mitch's churlishness and his less than 100% support for Trump.

I'm sorry Mitch didn't follow the guideline of retiring when people still want you.

I did like a number of things Mitch did, to include getting Republican Supreme Court nominees approved by the Senate and my favorite: torpedoing the nomination of Merrick Brian Garland. Those accomplishments merit at least one Star from me no matter what else he does.

I honestly do not think he will have the support for such. Though it will be billed as he wanted a simple ceremony in Kentucky.

If he is still in the Senate when the batteries run out the last time, then maybe he gets a service at the National Cathedral.

I understand Beijing may have additional ceremonies planned.

My choice, a Senate delegation of this guy and Rand Paul would be the GOAT. Texas would have to replace Cornyn with Chip Roy to even try and compete:

Flown-- thank you for the insights. Wasn't sure if being Majority Leader would out "trump" McCain's funeral. I can see the services occurring in China as well.

Him being in the Senate for 40 years may be enough to get him a day in the rotunda. Looking back it seems as though either no one important died during Obama or he was not a fan of folks lying in state.

Seems like Trump and Biden must have been getting a fee for it as the uptick is noticeable.

https://www.aoc.gov/what-we-do/programs-ceremonies/lying-in-state-honor

If he had kicked over at the end of Trump's first term he would have been a no-brainer given the SCOTUS transformation. Now… I think Trump has moved on as has the Senate.

I am not a fan of career pols getting the recognition. Should be POTUS's and American icons like Billy Graham and the like. I am no fan of McCain but his military service and POW experience sort of make for a good story.

Recognizing Medal of Honor recipients makes sense as well, assuming the family is agreeable.

I like this a lot.

It seems Trump said some mean things to him and his wife at some point?

Trump needs to remind him that many of his buds might get caught up in the investigation too. If he behaves then wait till the end then investigate him anyway, since it's the right thing to do. Playing nice days are way behind us.

I am confused....seems like the left got away with targeting conservatives with the IRS and bogus investigations that had no merit.

You are saying you wouldn't support ensuring members of the republican party have conducted themselves ethically during their extended time in office and ensuring that no quid pro quote occurred to buy a crucial senate vote?

But, one thing is clear: there can be little debate that, among other things, the President's pressure exerted on Vice President Pence to violate his oath, and the false hope it sent to emotionally charged supporters, was wrong, troubling, and impeachable.

There was the time, mostly during the first two years of Trump's first term, when everyone celebrated "Cocaine Mitch" running roughshod over the Senate Dems on judicial nominations, both for SCOTUS and lower.

But, other than those 2 years, he's mainly been a milquetoast eGOP squish.

Roy voted against impeachment. That was a comment in the days after Jan 6 when a lot was unclear that we know now as well. He opposed having Cheney removed at the time solely for voting for Trump's impeachment which he thought was a reasonable position even though he voted the other way. Roy is a man of principle as is Massie. He also is one of the harshest critics of people like Cheney now. Roy is consistent and speaks the truth.

I know to you that the only thing that matters is absolute loyalty to Trump at all times is the only thing that matters and that's fine, Trump has been incredible the last month. He also has done and said some really stupid things in the past.

Of course the thing that's really humorous to me is you can find comments from many around Trump where they said far worse at one point or another and they don't have records like Roy or Massie in being principled conservatives. Hey but they supported DeSantis so none of that matters or something.

Enjoy another 6 years of Cornyn.

You're seeing the real Mitch McConnell right now. During Trump's last term he had to play the game, but it's clear he's a titty baby. Our former Senate Majority Leader is not actively working against a duly elected GOP POTUS, who has a clear mandate to get things done.
What a POS!
