Well, consider that these people redact everything when it suits them. Leaking that the CIA is operating in Mexican airspace is inciteful and would most certainly be a violation of OPSEC.

Or maybe the leak came from the Trump admin, because they want the cartel to know they mean business?
Makes no sense for the CIA to leak this Actually the CIA might leak this to put pressure on the Mexican government to not co-operate with the Trump admin and to publicly embarass the Mexican government.

Wasn't there a thread around here over the last couple of weeks tracking the same flights? Maybe that was something different as I don't have a clue exactly what that kind of flight is doing or tracking.

Punish the leaker to the fullest extent, but are we really acting like this is a big surprise? We literally have AWACS flying around Mexico with their transponders on. The only way this changes anything is if the Reapers were rolling in hot, and even then, eff em.

Those were over American airspace and were ELINT aircraft (Rivet Joints?) , possibly co-ordinating with the MQ-9s and listening in on communications

Yeah, This really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, least of all the cartels. Trump was pretty clear about his intentions. Why wouldn't the CIA be tasked with investigating terrorist organizations in a foreign country? Pretty much their gig.

It could be a planned leak to see how the cartels act. Still, CNN sucks since 1993.

The Mexican government knows those drones are there. MQ-9s are *not* stealth aircraft.

I get the OPSEC concerns and agree with lynching the leaker: but a large increase in Reaper operations in southern states doesn't exactly fly under the radar (literally and figuratively). Especially when the Mexican military is rife with cartel moles.

I really do not find that deploying Reaper Drones over Mexico all that surprising. Actually I hope that they are carrying Hellfires and will start using them on Cartel targets of opportunity.

I also do not think that the Mexican Govt would object very much to a few Cartel Shot Callers being turned into a pink mist.

They each have their favorite media outlets. DOJ likes NYT and WaPo. Spooks prefer CNN, Axios and Politico.

If I was Trump, I would want this leaked to show the American people how serious I am taking the issue of the cartels and the drug trade. Using CNN provides plausible deniability.

For those calling this treasonous, if this were shown to be coming from the admin with Trump blessing, would you still call it treason? It is a moot point because the source of this leak will never see the light of day.

I doubt this is news to the cartels. I would have been shocked if we weren't using drones.

The CIA is the largest importer of drugs in the country. No telling how many untold billions sit in bank accounts in the Caymans or Bahamas or Switzerland that are CIA drug profit funds.

Gonna be a bitter pill to swallow when everyone realizes the drug cartels work for the CIA.
