How long do you want to ignore this user?
Posters on the other thread have accused Musk of intentionally making porn more easily accessible versus Twitter before Musk. I was not on Twitter much before Musk so I cant say whether that is true or not.

I never get porn on my feed but obviously liberals are being shown porn constantly on their feed without searching for it. I find that extremely hard to believe. Perhaps Musk has an algo to identify libs and show them porn since libs don't know how to use the BLOCK feature. It's a big troll by Musk. Or it could be that libs follow godless degenerates who consume and post porn. That's the more likely explanation.

Lots of influencers are now calling for an outright ban of porn on the platform. I agree.

In your settings, you can uncheck the "display media that may contain sensitive content". In search settings, click the "hide sensitive content". That should help.

Elon says they can mark accounts as NSFW - see below about Kanya West's account - and thus you won't see porn posted by people you follow; it either won't show any content from NSFW accounts if you are not age verified or under 18. If you are age verified, you must click thru to see it.

If you are following people that post porn or follow porn posters STOP FOLLOWING THEM!

Hopefully Elon is going to address this issue further.

I know it exists on the platform and can be easily sought out if you want to see it, just like on reddit. but none of my accounts on twitter before or X now have ever shown me any on my feeds. I tap between the "following" feed and the "for you" feed now on multiple accounts and don't see any pr0n. ...and I don't follow Kanye so if he posted smut, i wasn't going to see it. ...then again, maybe my accounts aren't "age verified". i don't know.

It's the algo. The libs complaing about it are interacting with it one way or another. It's the same reason I have a bunch of lib stuff on my feed. It's because I comment on it way more than conservative stuff.

I literally didn't know there was porn on X. Why even have it? Seems like Musk could fix this fairly easily.

Musk has repeatedly said that anything that is legal will be allowed on his platform. Porn seems to be a fairly easy/justifiable exception, but he's probably hung up on his own policy that anything/everything legal is allowed.

I'd like him to ban it completely, but as others have said you can filter content. And if you haven't ever interacted with it then it won't be nearly as pervasive as some indicate.

I'm sure it's "content creators" promoting themselves on "that other site"

pornography is protected speech under the 1st amendment. obscenity and child pornography are not

Yes, it can happen relatively innocently for politics, like in your case, and for photos and eventually porn. For example, I'm not on X, but I am on Instagram. I started following Annie Agar because she makes those comedy sketches on the NFL. Same reason I started following Matt Mitchell. The difference is that Annie also posts photo shoots of herself. So, if you follow Annie, you are going to get more posts of beautiful girls like Annie.

It is designed this way.
Beautiful girl in a photo shoot.
Beautiful girls in lingerie/ bikinis hit your feed
Beautiful nude girls or overtly sexual innuendos
Porn.

That is the journey. It feeds off of human dopamine hits. Basically X is geared to dopamine hit which is almost always never in your best interest. Whether it is porn or even non-sex related topics. They will fill your feed with political posts that make you mad. Or outrageous sports takes for your favorite sport.

You have to be very, very intentional with any interaction with something that can dopamine manipulate you.

The amount of porn on there now is probably unchanged from before Musk bought it. I imagine it's just something libs are starting to scream about because they want to be angry at Musk and don't have anything substantial to be angry about, so they'll grasp anything to smear him.

My only use for Twitter is breaking news stuff looking for live info - that is always completely infested with porn as soon as it gains some trending traction. Makes it impossible

I'm not on Twitter, but I think the Twitter algo complicates this argument a bit.

Algorithms can feed you content based on conversations around you, or things searched for by someone else on a shared wifi, or things based on someone you follow, etc. It's not as simple as say, a search engine, where you simply get what you pursue.

My wife was telling me she did not want to go on a cruise. Guess what I started getting ads for, online? Yep, cruises.

So while they have the freedom to post content, I also have the freedom to choose not to participate in that content. The algorithm doesn't always allow for that...and I think there is an obvious reason why it's not easier to disable/prevent this type of content.
CampSkunk

Agree completely. There are supposedly tools available. On Instagram, you can reset your algorithm. I've done it a few times and it seems to help, but not completely.

I didn't know it was on X either and honestly don't understand it. You just Google Image or Video search and get all the pr0n you could ever need... why would someone go on X?

Unfortunately the amount of bots and trash accounts on X have seemingly grown recently. Most of my feed is almost unreadable.

Im not arguing with you, I'm adding to the conversation about why he doesnt 'fix' it (the post you replied to). They can't simply hide behind free speech, when their software's function is to force feed various content to you. They could add functions to 'fix' it, for those who dont want it...while still allowing the free speech part of posting content. But they dont.

It's not unique to Twitter. Most content apps dont want to reduce engagement...which it would do.

The problem is that the algorithm is too aggressive in what it promotes. Your "interaction" can only be just opening the post or it staying on the screen too long. Without commenting on or liking the post, it will get amplified, and get amplified more as it pushes new posts you "interact" with.

It happens a ton with other topics, too. I was reading smack talk for the A&M/tu game and X decided to push tons of sip posters for weeks. I read what people have to say about the mavs trade, and now my timeline is pretty much only NBA news, a sport I don't care about. It just shoves in more and more as you read it with very little outside of the bubble.

You can easily end up pigeonholed into a content cycle unless you intentionally start searching different topics to break it. I imagine that curating who you follow helps significantly, but for people like me who use X as a ghost (no posts/comments, no likes, no follows) this is a real problem.

I have been on twitter before and after musk.

Ive never seen any porn on it, under either regime.

I find it hard to believe it organically pops up unless you've told the algorithm you want to see it, you follow people who post such things, or you physically do a search for it.

I have no doubt it exist on x. I have no doubt it exists on Facebook, insta, TikTok, or any other social media platform.

Just to add to- Elon has said many times he will allow legal speech. Porn, at this moment in time, is legal speech. Its not all that surprising therefore you can find porn on x.

I dont deny it happens. I'm just adding my anecdotal experience of being on the platform for a decade or so and having logged many hours at this point of twitter usage.

In all that time, ive never seen a second of porn. That doesn't mean it doesnt exist. But, having it pop up on your thread could tell one more about the user than the platform.

Ive seen more porn on texags, despite the relative heavy moderation

What seems easy sometimes is not so easy. The problem starts with the definition of pornography. As with a lot of definitions if done improperly the definition could be abused by the purveyors of bestiality or the banning of images of people wearing spandex.
Vacationing in the BVI on a catamaran was eye opening. What is allowed in public, especially on the beaches is frankly disgusting especially when children are around. Completely naked people, in the presence of children, jumping off the second deck of a floating bar is inappropriate.
Hopefully Elon Musk chooses wisely.

If you are looking to establish authoritarianism, the best way to get people to question freedom of speech is to pr0n blast their platforms.

I've never seen porn on twitter, (other than pics of a see through dress last weekend) and feel like I am reasonably competent to block it if I ever do.

See that is not true. I stopped looking at porn long ago. Something changed recently because it started showing on my feed in Twitter. I didn't change any of my settings, though, and my account is only a few years old.

I think their algorithm has had issues or people have figured out how to skirt the system with trending subjects.

Also - you can limit the platform to people you follow vs. the platform's algorithm suggested for you. I prefer to just go with people I follow. I've curated the list over time, and it's good enough for me.

I don't have that stuff on my feed but I do have it set to warn me about sensitive content. The majority of the people I follow are in politics and sometimes post aftermaths of attacks. I don't want to be going through X at the airport and having a kid looking at my phone seeing a dead person.

Its not about not offending adults. It's about protecting children. We don't let kids under the age of 21 buy handguns despite the second amendment.

Also, X is private and thus has nothing to do with protecting free speech.

What gives? I bring up the topic and it's availability to kids and get gang-banged labeled a porn addict. If this is not a prime example of why people say f16 is disgusting, I don't know what is.
