I was just reading a throwaway article where Vance was coherently pushing back on the courts for slowing Trump's progress and it got me thinking - is he the best V.P. of my lifetime?

I realize there has never been a very high bar for V.P., and I don't recall how effective people like George H. Bush were in that role, but I'm pretty sure I would take Vance over anyone else.

Counterpoint. Social media and the modern age has given VPs much more visibility than previous presidencies. For the same reason I love Vance, I think Harris a bumbling idiot.

Nah, Biden was much better. Just kidding, Vance is and there isn't a close second

the msm is spinning his pushback as he doesn't understand separation of power and believes in authoritarianism government. They just won't change

Don't forget about Dick Cheney, he was a real straight shooter. And that other guy who invented the internet.

Holy Hell we have had some really crap VP's

It's a little early in Vance's tenure as VP to receive this much praise, but I agree he's on track to be the best VP ever, and may be our next President…

Agreed.... this is a discussion for 2-3 years from now.

Social media was very prevalent during Peepaw's term and yet we heard very little from Harris, which is ironic since he didn't hold any press conferences, took tons of vacations and put a lid on the press at 11:00am regularly.

She could have been the de facto POTUS if she wanted to but was too lazy and incompetent to do so. If she had taken a more active role who knows, maybe she garners more votes in the election although knowing how unintelligent she is it likely would have had the opposite effect.

In the modern era, I would put up Nixon as the standard to measure against. He had a lot of responsibility as VP, and accomplished much.
It takes a special kind of brainwashed useful idiot to politically defend government fraud, waste, and abuse.

He's overqualified to be VP.

The fact that he's an excellent communicator puts him ahead of the vast majority of former VP's.

I love the way he always makes sure to call the interviewer by name in his response. It personalizes him and puts the interviewer off guard and it's a brilliant tactic...of course being VERY high IQ doesn't hurt.

Yeah...we're two weeks in. We need to slow down just a tad, and revisit this in a few years.

That said, I appreciate the fact he hasn't disappeared into the shadow, like you often see. He's front and center and involved.

2 weeks in this presidency is not a normal 2 weeks. If we are being generous we can use dog years (even though Trump team is working way more than 7x speed). So in 4 months we will have 2+ years worth of data.

No need to wait 2-3 years to form opinions on performance.

The "Hillbilly Elegy" audiobook is read by him. Very much worth the time.

It also puts the interviewer on notice.

If you ask Vance a stupid question, your name is likely to go viral in a bad way in JD's fantastic response.

This.

The book is 100% better than the movie. And, shows that he had seen the same political trends Trump did prior to the 2016 election.

Depends on how you define success I suppose. The VP job is sort of a minister without portfolio position so it is hard to actually point to anything happening due to Vance alone.

There are other VPs that had a much more central role in policy making and getting things done. There are other VPs with much lengthier resumes and broader relationships going into the job. In my view, Trump is a sort of one man policy machine and expects his cabinet, VP, and others to advance his goals. Vance has served that role really well.

George H.W. served at IMO am much more consequential period of history. He did a great job serving while Reagan recovered from his bullet wound. He managed pretty successful initiatives like the taskforce on reducing federal regulation. He was extremely pligged in globally due to his heading up the CIA and his ambassadorship to China.

Dick Cheney was sort of the alter-ego to H.W. . . . .also incredibly experienced and connected and wielding much more influence and control but to ultimately sh^tty ends.

I'd have to say Nixon was the best in my lifetime.
