Approximately 10 years after the LBJ executive order, the Florida state legislature reverted the name change without objection from the feds. Changing to Cape Kennedy was unpopular amongst the native Floridians as they see it as burying the historical significance of the Cape.

Renaming it hasn't cost a single thing...politically or monetarily...and probably won't.

In official announcements it's free to change "Mexico" to "America".

To my knowledge, he hasn't gone full Biden making signage change declarations ala base name changes, etc.

Thanks. That makes sense. And with the Apollo program winding down, the switch went kind of unnoticed as any space fans were well aware of the `Canaveral' term before as well.

This renaming has some geopolitical considerations that make it useful. Its a very overt way to make sure its understood the Monroe Doctrine is returning. Maduro being designated terrorist is another. This is nothing like, say, the Denali/McKinley debate for Alaska.

I'm a fan of Trump, but I'm not on board with this. I'm a traditionalist conservative. It's been so named for more than 3 centuries. No need to change it for political purposes. I didn't like Biden changing the names of bases and other things. I don't like this.

We do - and even in the world of renaming these are low priority (military bases should be reverted immediately).

…But if the goal is to overload the news cycle as to prevent unified resistance against meaningful changes; then near-zero-effort distractions have their place.

On the legal dodge of renaming, to really make it take, leave the name Gulf of Mexico for some small part right offshore of Mexico, and then literally Biden's fool ban applies only to it and not the renamed part.

HOW is it bad on DeSantis' part? If nothing else its shrewd support of the incoming admin and another signal of any divide they have being sidelined. If nothing else its to his interest at this point.

Even if you think it is for such superficial reasons rather than something more subtle like a Monroe Doctrine re-statement or some legal aim, that still doesn't explain how DeSantis using the term is bad on his part? Its shrewd signal of support out of the gate.

Biden's moratorium on no drilling in the Gulf of Mexico has been temporarily rendered null & void, as such isn't defined by longitude & latitude map points. Since this area is now referred to as the "Gulf of America", as stated in the video above, Trump has authority to drill on account of a technicality; besides, it's a funny jab to the cartel-controlled Pres. of Mexico, so maybe y'all should clutch your pearls about other issues, like Biden's blanket pardons, or if you want to stay on the topic of Trump, how about his executive actions thus far?

Instead, we got guys *****ing about a light-hearted name change to undue Biden's BS & simultaneously poke fun at Mexico's lame duck president! BTW- did you see her replies? It's not a good look to talk **** while holding a silver medal/ 2nd place trophies; in other words, her ****-talking game is lame!
