Khou is starting their stories about families being separated due to deportation, which is the first of many more to come.

The parents made conscious decisions that led to this situation. As far as the father being "separated" from the family, they also made a decision for him to stay and not accompany his family back to Mexico. Nobody stopped him from going. Again decisions have consequences.

Exactly. No one is forcing them to be separated. Their choice.

I was in Corpus for couple days the week after the election, the local news there was running a story about how Trump was going to destroy education, deport families, and starve kids.

They interviewed a girl at A&M CC, she said she was worried that she wouldn't get anymore school loans and that her siblings wouldn't be allowed to even go to college, then they interviewed local teacher union rep, she said trump would cut off school lunches and kids would starve. And both said they where afraid of getting deported even though they where citizens.

This was less than a week after the election and this was local news running with fear porn.

Family separations have been the norm for illegals from Mexico for decades. The ones who came over in the 50s and 60s were always males; they worked here and sent money home and returned for a couple of extended visits every year. It's the same today for many of them.

Nothing new to see here.

when Luigi murdered a CEO in Manhattan

did the US government separate him from his family or just let him go so he can stay with his family?

EVERY REPUBLICAN SHOULD BE MAKING THIS ARGUMENT

actually, it is greater morality because in the deportation case the criminal CAN LEAVE WITH THEIR ENTIRE FAMILY.

Anyone "separated" at this point would be under the Biden administration.

American Citizens are separated from their families and sent to prison everyday in this country. Why is there an insistent need by the left to treat illegals better than are own citizens?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the history of interpretation of the 14th Amendment has been done and what it means for the future.

From what I've read the "birthright citizenship" is just an interpretation and that may change.

According to Mexican law, children born to Mexican citizens are considered Mexican citizens, even if they are born outside of Mexico. Therefore, at least for the Mexicans, they may return with their children to Mexico.

Those people complaining about "breaking" up families, need to help all childern born, in the U.S., of Mexican nationals to obtain Mexican passports, so that families can stay together.

Republicans might as well get ready for their daily dose of this type of story because it will be reported over and over and over again during the next few years.

As Homan said, "We can deport families". No separation required. Anything else the media reports is either not the truth, or not the whole story.

As has been said in this thread, people make choices, and it's not the responsibility of our government or the American taxpayers to pander to bad ones.

First off, change is very hard. There is SCOTUS precedent for birthright citizenship. A very old one but still there. The most practical way to end it would appear to require a Constitutional amendment to clarify what the 14th applied to, that is, former slaves. Then again maybe "practical" is the wrong word because that would be nearly impossible.

OTOH, test cases are created on all sorts of Constitutional issues once a suitable plaintiff is secured. Trump can issue an EO, have it immediately challenged ultimately ending up before SCOTUS to revisit U.S. v. Wong Kim Ark (1898). That decision came down so close in time from when the 14th had been ratified, that perhaps the Court could distinguish it for that reason.

Then again, maybe not as the Court could punt, saying a Constitutional amendment is required, washing their hands of it. We know how the three liberals would vote. We know how Thomas, Alito and likely Gorsuch would. But have no idea where ACB, Kavanaugh nor C.J. Roberts would fall.

Clear as mud, I know but my best take.

This is where Republicans in Congress will lose their backbones. Once the stories of all the horrific suffering are plastered on the news every night, they will worry more about the optics and their jobs than actually abiding by the laws of the country.

No. We are reuniting families back where they belong. Need to keep reinforcing that.

And shame on the parents that let their kids go with a coyote or other stranger. The inhumane side doesn't get to paint the story here.

Criminals have been "seperated" from their families for centuries. They act like this is something new.

Good news, these criminals are not being incarcerated therefore their families can actually stay with them.

Yeah, they didn't give a crap when my 1 yr old son and his mother got deported to Colombia because of some bureaucrat's laziness after she was returning from visiting family. Took almost 3 yrs to clear that nonsense up. No sympathy from me.

I highly doubt the Supreme Court would overturn birthright citizenship, since Roberts seems to consider the practical viability of his decisions regardless of the Constitution.

To me, the solution would be an amendment that changes the definition of a citizen to be those born with at least one parent who is a citizen.

I don't think it's right for parents that willfully violate the sovereignty of the USA to be rewarded with citizenship for their children, but I just don't see the Court fixing the problem.

Maybe the amendment could include that apportionment is only based on citizens and not total persons as well.

Given how divided things seem these days, is it even possible to ratify an amendment by the vote of 38 states?

Chinese do this all the time.

I used to see them all the time when I would arrive at LAX.

Mom with a Chinese passport and her little American Birth Tourism baby with the blue USA passport.

It's not that hard to do.
