I was watching an interview with Erick Prince of Blackwater and they are making and selling a cell phone that is supposed to be way more private called "Unplugged". Anybody here have one yet? If so I'd love to hear a review of how well they live up to their marketing.

I'd love it if I could have iOS on it. But that will never happen. I think Apple is pretty secure. That's a big part of their motto and

I don't have one, which is who you asked reviews from. But my opinion ...

UP Phone / Unplugged is hot garbage Chinese tech with serious security and privacy flaws. At best, it's an android phone with Google stripped out. Closed OS. They fail at some pretty fundamental privacy thresholds that others have achieved for several years.

At worst, Unplugged is a honeypot grift, according to privacy and OPSec expert circles.

GrapheneOS is the gold standard for mobile privacy, and their devs absolutely destroy Unplugged here:

Most of what people do with their phones is on third party apps, anyway. What's the point?

Besides, Apple is already secure and privacy-minded, and it receives regular, free security updates that I don't have to worry about whether or not they'll continue because the company and/or product division went out of business.

A few years ago, there was a lot of interest in the BlackPhone from Silent Circle. I read once that it was real popular among Pentagon consultants.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackphone

The BlackPhone is gone, but SIlent Circle now offers "Silent Phone" and "Silent World" that work on your own Apple and Android phones.

See https://www.silentcircle.com

So if you want something more secure for your Apple or Android phone, this might be very much worth looking at.

If not that, there is always Signal. My sister and my nephew and I use it without a problem.

As for phone security, one thing that I would really love is to get rid of many of the apps on my cell phone.

For example, there is one called "MySites" that is apparently included on Tracphones. I've tried multiple times and it won't let me get rid of it.

I've already removed all the games I could find on it.

Hell no. It would have to be pretty secure for me to ditch my iOS and Apple. Not gonna happen. Plus, I still can't wrap my head around this idea that dorky people who have 300 apps on their phone all of a sudden are worried about privacy. There is no privacy. You gave that up when you got your phone and asked Maps to take you to your mom's house. I mean…WTH.

Wouldnt trust anyrhing that blackwater sold. Talk about a company thats one stap away from world power. Wouldn't be surprised if they were the ones, that set up the death of the UnitedHealthCare CEO.

Did recently buy a sat phone. Minutes on those things are ridiculous. Told the wife don't call me, unless she's dying.

The iPhone is pretty secure but Apple is an evil corporation. I'd love for the rumors about Elon's Tesla or X phone to be reality at some point.

If there's ever an X phone, it'll just be another Android phone. The only differentiator would be quality of hardware. And maybe Starlink, but that's unlikely.

Her phone was never accessed. Her online account was hacked as part of a phishing scheme. It sounds like she literally gave them the passwords.

Saving photos (or anything) to iCloud is optional, anyway. You can choose to keep it all locked down on your phone.

They both fell for a phishing scheme and their phones were never accessed. Apple's security didn't fail. They literally gave their passwords to strangers, unknowingly.

I will probably go with something like this if/when a Democrat is running the executive branch and the FBI again (Because I am not a democrat and post memes/stories, not crimes in any non-UK/CCP kind of way). Would need to see how the browser options and app libraries evolve. My biggest issue is I'd really like a companion ipad type of thing.

Except now apple intelligence is passively reading all your messages, Screenscraping, etc. And sending info back to the cloud.

Exactly. We recently did the packet analysis with it turned on and off... Stuff is going off device all the time.

Apple is most secure when the owner of said phone commits a crime like mass shouting, and even the FBI can't get into it.
