There was a quiet battle between DeSantis and JD Vance

JD hopefully learned a little lesson yesterday. There was a radical Leftist Judge confirmed yesterday, so radical that Manchin voted against and he was approved 49-45. There were 5 GOP Senators that didn't show up to vote and if they had it would have made it 50-49 unless Fetterman made it in to vote. DeSantis sends out this tweet first.

JD Vance took it personally and put out this response and then deleted it later.

DeSantis tweet wasn't even about Vance personally, it was about all of the GOP Senators that didn't show up to vote.

Then Trump weighed in.

Not a big deal but an interesting little inside battle that DeSantis won yesterday. He was particularly upset about this crazy leftist because she is going to be on the Appeals Court that covers Florida for Life now. He is focused on governance and Vance looked pretty bad in this with the attitude and got slapped on the wrist by Trump, Musk also has been talking about how we need to do everything we can to stop these last minute Judges being appointed.

Don't want a war but I do hope Vance learns a lesson from this as well as the other GOP Senators that think their time is more valuable doing something other than their actual job right now. It's also interesting that Trump came out and effectively agreed with DeSantis and made Vance go delete his post.

I'm glad Vance is going to be VP, but he needs to do his job until the new session starts (which is January 3 or something like that). Once the new session starts, he will be free to do as he wants because Democrats won't be in the majority anymore, even though Trump and Vance will not be sworn in until January 20.

As the incoming VP you would think he could rally the GOP to freaking show up. At the very least, it would shine a spotlight on the situation.

Bad JD.

I like JD a lot but he is very inexperienced and is going to make some mistakes like this. Hopefully he learns from it and doesn't get petty for being called out. This is the big leagues and he basically just got called up after spending a few weeks in the minors.

Why single JD out and not the others........already plotting against him for the 2028 election OP?

All need to be singled out for not voting.....not just the presumptive 2028 Presidential Candidate....

The other GOP Senators not showing up to vote....

Mike Braun (Indiana)
Steve Daines (Montana)
Bill Hagerty (Tennessee)
Marco Rubio (Florida)
J.D. Vance (Ohio)

The Dems have 50 Senators and the tie break - this means they can add as many of those members to approve these judges - this is a very low level distraction. If JD showed up, and a few more RNC - then DNC would match, and eventually win. Not sure why this is an issue - other than an unhealthy love for DeSantis.

Yep, gotta be fair...this is a strike against him. And I really like him. Hopefully a wake up call/lesson learned. He could have rallied the GOP and also worked channels with the very few reasonable dems remaining. Or at least tried. DO YOUR MOTHERF***ING JOB.

Manchin voted against

This is a non issue. Dems would have passed the judge if all the gop showed up to vote or they would have delayed the vote to when they had the numbers.

It's 51-49. Even if Machin voted against they had the numbers to pass.

Vance wasn't singled out. Desantis & others made a general complaint and Vance took it personally.

make the dems show up. You can be a fan of JD and still admit he should be onsite. This is a tactical error on all of the senators that aren't present.

No they did not. Once Manchin defected they only had 50 total and the VP for the tie-breaker. Except Harris was in Hawaii and Fetterman did not show up. That meant if all Republicans showed up and voted then it would be 50 against to 49 for and the appointment would have failed. Even if Fetterman showed up they did not have Harris for the tie-breaker.

This was a major major fail by some Republican senators.

Exactly.

JD singled himself out. And the excuse that he was picking an FBI director nominee so he couldn't make it to vote is laughable on its face.

Yep. This is not so much about JD not showing up for the vote as it is JD not stepping up in his leadership role to make sure everyone showed up to vote.

Honestly, that is a very tall ask for a guy in his position.

Huge JD fan. Super excited about his leadership going forward. I don't see this as a mistake as much as I see it as a significant missed opportunity. But, no one bats 1.000. God bless JD.

Geez man. If they didn't have the votes they would have done two things, delay it or simply vote again. And I'll bet Manchin only defected because they let him. His no vote would most assuredly turn to yes if they needed it.

Some of us like governance. At least make the Dems work for it. More than that though it was JD's response that was the mistake. DeSantis didn't single him out and he is talking about advancing Trump's agenda every day. JD is the one who had the whiny "I was doing important things" comment. That was the mistake. Bad to not show up but that tweet was really bad.

BTW, if you follow your own logic then Trump has TDS.

And that's the point. Don't make it easy for them. Schumer wants to ram through as many appointments as possible in the final weeks, but the time is very limited. MAKE THEM WORK FOR EVERY ONE.

EVERY delay to the process will result in less leftist judges confirmed. As Harris was in Hawaii, the prospect of breaking a 50-50 tie would have to wait days, possibly weeks to happen, as everyone wants to leave for Thanksgiving. Plus, it wasn't a given that Fetterman would have shown. It's entirely possible that they could have outright voted down the nomination.

But we just gave the Dems an easy win, and a lifetime appointment with little fanfare.

Interviewing FBI candidates is an important job, but it's not time sensitive. This vote was.

Swing and a miss by Vance to lash out over the callout. The callout was justified.

This times a thousand.

Do you think Manchin wanted to block the approval?
If, so, he would have had a much better chance blocking if he went to X or emailed the GOP to form a plan. Especially publicly. Is he that dumb?

Instead, I believe he kept it secret, then had a safe, "rogue" vote, knowing JD and Rubio had much more important things to do.

Gave Murdock and uniparty types something to chip away to divide the massive red wave that they can no longer control.

Be skeptical of Fox News - just my opinion.

Manchin is a lame duck Independent. You also have multiple lame duck Democrats. You don't make it easy on them.

This. Floor time is limited. If they really wanted this particular judge, then they could arrange to have the vote at a time when Harris and every D Senator could be there, but that would limit their ability to get other nominees confirmed.

The "point" is that DeSantis rightly pointed out that we need to pay attention to what is going on in the Senate right now and that Vance made a foolish tweet that he was too busy doing more important things. Then Vance's boss came out and agreed fully with DeSantis. It was a mistake by Vance and a credit to DeSantis for keeping his eye on the ball. Nothing major but Vance is the one who took it personally not DeSantis. DeSantis was talking about all 5 Senators who didn't show up.
