Assuming, only the panelswere damaged, can the remaining panels produce electricity to the grid? Or does it have to be rebuilt in order to produce watts?

That was from the tornado that went through there. I think it was an EF-3?

Did the people who made this farm not know that Florida IS hurricane season and that anything and everything in a hurricane's path has a greater than not chance of getting destroyed?

Natural disasters particularly tornadoes, do hefty damage to any electricity generation facility.

And solar panels are the most easily damaged by weather.

This. Probably the first time Iv'e starred a lib's post. Some of you "oil or nothing" types are as ignorant as "green or nothing" . Both camp's extremes are idiots.

An energy mix is always a good idea especially if the facilities are matched with the right geography and climate.

Why would anyone build a solar farm in a state that's experiencing population growth and a corresponding demand for energy, that has a surprising amount of relatively flat rural land, that's literally called the Sunshine State? And to put it in a county that's arguably the furthest from both the Atlantic and Gulf coasts?

Weird.

Yeah, there's always the chance of severe weather. But that's kind of a derpy take to think it's a bad idea with no upside.

Wind turbines routinely make it through horror blue conditions including tornadoes and hail...

Was in Puerto Rico couple of years ago on East side. Lots of wind turbines. Not one was operational. All taken out by hurricanes.

Its a matter of distributed risk. A nuke gets built to take direct weather and terroristic attacks. A solar field is much less resilient, but its individual destruction is supposed to be far less impactful.

Unfortunately the folks planning the energy mix of the future include eco-cultists who are a product of the "good times" cycle and setting true stage for future generation shortfalls that wouldn't have been allowed by wiser generations.

Have not read were anyone is celebrating, only questioning the disadvantages of solar panels.

Are you sure some of it wasn't due to poor maintenance. On any such complex system that's a huge variable.

Florida is bordered by the Atlantic and Gulf. The Sunshine State moniker is for advertising and tourism. It is regularly hit by hurricanes, with the included tornadoes. Having lived in Florida,~30 miles inland off the east coast, you could see heavy cloud cover almost ever afternoon as far as the eye could see up and down the coast.

You want sunshine try Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, etc.

To be honest, if an EF-3 hit a gas powered electrical plant, dead on, there would be a lot of destruction.

Lots of reinforced concrete and heavy steel also all anchored. I don't think the electrical plant would be decimated the way the solar farm was. Not even close.

I hope those companies take Elon's approach of going, "Okay, that didn't work like we wanted to, but what did work and what needs to be improved?" It's what Elon did with Space-X, and look where it's at today.

Or they could just let Elon buy them so he can turn it around.

Yeah. Honestly the rest of the facility looks totally fine. They're engineered to the appropriate hurricane wind speed rating but a tornado is a whole different ballgame

Whomever cheerleads damage it destruction of infrastructure because it isn't their preferred flavor is just petty and small minded in my opinion. Energy diversification and advancement is a good thing.

Same mindset as of cheerleading a NASA failure or a Blue Origin fallout because "not Elon."

I'm no fan of the tax credits and incentives but that's the current roles of the game. Do we not play and sit at home just because we don't like the DH or the targeting rules?

This is a topic that unfortunately can't be maturely discussed with the boomer age folks on this board. I wishfully think that everyone here would agree we need to eventually (very long term) start figuring out how to diversity our energy production and invest heavily to find better solutions.

But alas, here we are again getting the general "solar idiots, rah rah rah". I want to believe most rational people that aren't crusty old ppl that want it to be 1975 at all times understand we need to work towards the long term goal, while also pushing extremely back on the government being complete idiots trying to ram it down our throats.

This objective can't happen in 25-50 years. It's a long term approach that if anyone actually sat down to discuss without partisanship, I think would be pretty understandable from both sides of the aisle.

but yes, nvm, lets ridicule the dumbassery bc its not fossil fuels and libs done fud up again!
