Are we going to see mass homeless of elderly since most cannot afford to retire? What about gen z/millennial, social security will likely be a fraction of what it is today… I don't see how the system won't collapse with the fact that people don't know how to save money anymore and only a small percentage will have enough to actually afford retirement.

It's the crisis no one is talking about. And the only solution is raiding 401ks of those who are responsible to pay for the lazy grasshoppers who didn't

If our healtcare system is a bellweather, expect there to be calls over the next few years to nationalize all retirement systems in order to protect Social Security and "retirement". IRA's, 401(k)s, and every other plan that gets tax deferral from the government will be subject to confiscation by the government to insure that "none of our retirees have to be homeless".

Lost in the message will be the absolutely horrific conditions resulting from government run senior living facilities. One need only to compare current VA facilities vs. private run facilities to see what nationalized senior living facilities would look like.

And we're probably only a few years away from Canada's "Do the right thing, take a pill and end it" strategy of saving the government money.

Don't worry all you have to do is look at Canada and the lead architect of Obamacare and top HC advisor to these folks Ezekial Emmanuel. Once you have outlived your productivity to the state they will just deny you HC procedures and give you pain pills while encouraging you to lay down and die. At least for the serfs who's only purpose is to serve the elites. Once we have outlived our usefulness to them no reason to let us be a drain on resources unless they need our votes, but once it becomes a 1 Party state you don't need them anymore.

That's the end of the left wing rainbow.

Obesity epidemic to the rescue! I recall life expectancy is actually starting to move backward due to unhealthy lifestyles. If people work until 68 & die at 72 with a mountain of medical debt, it's mostly a medical funding issue.

We'll see a rise in squalid elderly conditions.

Another few years and we'll see the real results of taking Ozempic or Wegovy in order to look good today.

semaglutide.. may also cause damage to the retina, suicidal ideation, gallstones, pancreatitis, and acute kidney damage.
Moreover, taking semaglutide can increase the chance of developing thyroid tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma. Speak with your doctor if you are experiencing any of the side effects listed above.

These people may not make it to 72. But hey, they'll be thin getting there....

and that last 5 years of life incurring 95% of lifetime medical bills will just move up to your 60's instead of your 70's.

Society in general as we know it today will need to be restructured by the time Gen Z or Millennials reach retirement age.

If you look at what AI has become today, vs only 5-6 years ago…it's remarkable. Now imagine what it will be in 25-30 years.

These are great questions. They've also been asked from every generation for, at least, the past few decades, yet election cycle after election cycle nothing gets done to address it.

Well, politicians keep getting reelected, with some even discussing the issue, but still nothing gets done.

I wouldn't worry about it, OP. I mean, if our politicians haven't been worried enough to come up with a solution in the last thirty to forty years, why should we be?

Was having this discussion recently with a group of similarly aged people. I'm Gen X. Some in the group were older millennials. We all commented how we are and have been paying into a system to support baby boomers via SS and Medicare and it's unlikely the level below us in the pyramid can sustain it for us. We are also paying for layers below us to have student loans forgiven and other entitlements. Keep in mind that many in this group paid for their own educations and repaid their own loans, myself and my wife included. None in the group were raise or even considered that the government owed them lifestyle support. This group included conservatives and liberals, although not absolute extremes on either side. And nearly 100% were in agreement on how messed up the whole system is. It's not a R and D issue. It's a class and somewhat generational issue.

Sure, many people don't know how to save.

But the bigger problem is that many people are UNABLE to save due to rampant inflation and the fact wages haven't kept up with it.

The system is collapsing FAST and we're going to see a crisis in the coming decade or two. Retirement is going to be reserved for high earners while the middle-lower classes will be forced to work until they die.

I've read more than enough articles over the past few years that talk about households pulling in between two and four hundred thousand a year living paycheck to paycheck.

I can see those couples also working much longer than they would had they learned to be smart with their money.

Watch how many on Medicare or Medicaid go on hospice. Not last few days or weeks of life, but years in hospice, with a DNR and pre-denial of advanced care.

They won't have to actually take the money out of your 401K. They can increase your taxes or reduce/eliminate your SS income to offset your 401K income.

Sure, again, many people don't know how to save.

The bigger problem, however, is the fact there are tens of millions of people with families that are unable to save due to inflation and the lack of wages keeping pace.

I'm talking your families whose combined income is less that 100k/year. There are MILLIONS of people that belong to that demographic that will never be able to retire, because they will never be able to save enough to do it.

It's going to be a HUGE problem.

While true this skews the problem. Our society has never saved. This inflation and wage pace is secondary at this point.

Even if we didn't have those two things happening no one would be saving. It's just that with our debt now at unsustainable levels and the world slowly collapsing that is going to exacerbate everything.
