GWB seems to not have many fans on this board. I don't understand this since he's been a conservative his whole political career, was a good Governor here in Texas, and put conservative justices on the Supreme Court while he was President. He also led the nation through 9/11 in a calm, controlled manner. I know some people don't like his recent voting tendencies in elections, but to be fair, the Republicans are vastly different from what they were when he was President. I think he gets a lot of unjustified criticism, especially when his whole body of work is considered.

Because he was an open borders, war mongering, globalist, who was all about supporting the swamp and the elites over average Americans.

I didn't vote for him even once. And I don't regret it in the slightest.

He gave us some reassuring moments immediately after 9/11. Then he promptly used 9/11 as justification to implement the liberty trampling surveillance state we live in today. Then he used 9/11 as justification to launch an unprovoked war against Iraq, which was very poorly executed and cost too many lives. He also expanded Medicare, and was pushing an immigration bill that would have granted mass amnesty. He was a big spending neocon. Not much to like for conservatives actually.

A lot of people here including me were pretty gung-ho about the Iraq invasion and defended it. It took me a long time to realize how much of a boondoggle that really was.

He also inherited a budget that was near balance and immediately started spending money like it was going out of style.

Personally, I think the villain of that administration was Dick Cheney. Remove him from the equation and I'm wondering how different the entire world would look right now. I fault Bush for naming him VP.

Roberts is meh (although has been better lately), but Alito is solid.

George W. was and is a good man but he is weak and is persuaded to do things way to easily. We shouldn't have been in Iraq, but he listened way too much to Dick. We shouldn't have bailed out wall street, but he listened way too much to the big banks.

He thought and still believes that if he his nice to liberals that they'll like him. He's wrong. He was literally Hitler when he was in office and would be literally Hitler if he ran today. He cares way too much what people think of him and you can tell.

Bush lost me over time. Starting with "reaching across the aisle" to now where he and his entire family have proven to be hard core elitist swamp rats who will do anything to protect their elite world. Trump threatens that.

Or if he just came out and supported Trump. Remember Robert Gates. He was a hero around here until he didn't support Trump.

Reagan picked his dad as VP to try to unify the party in '80. The Bush, Romney, Rove, Abbott, etc side of the party is more about power and less about standing up for what is right. They are the "country club" Republicans that actually like more government and more government/corporate partnerships.

GWB endorsed progressives like BHO and Sleepy Joe. His daughter is a popular news babe on NBC and doesn't act much different than any of the crazy left anchors.

There has been a big gap between GOP leadership and the people that vote for them for a long time. The Bush/Cornyn wing of the party acts like they are just like us, but we end up getting roast beef covered in ketchup and they call it "brisket".

He never endorsed Obama.

He also didn't endorse Biden (or Hillary), but he didn't bash Biden either and congratulated him when he won. In 2016 he voted 3rd party and likely did in 2020 or left it blank.

Now, a lot of people who were in his administration did back Biden in 2020, but he can't control what private citizens do.

He wasn't perfect in his response, but one thing he definitely did was unify the country in a way that most would have struggled to do in such a horrifying time. He led by example and showed that America wasn't going to be intimidated by terrorists. He will always have my respect for that.

Dude, anyone with half a brain could "unify" the country after 9-11. Sadly within a couple of months the left was back to being themselves. We never actually unified, that is a false premise.

George W Bush and his Dad had people in place in the CIA to spy on and use falsified evidence to remove Trump by any means necessary.

All because Trump was a threat to the same foreign policy that the H Bush, Clinton, George W and Obama espoused. Those presidents knew they were agents of a foreign policy that they didn't completely understand…..except maybe George H Bush

Even Reagan had a different foreign policy. And George H tried to throw him under the bus.

OP- He knowingly falsified images to convince the world to invade Iraq.

He signed the patriot act.

He did nothing about the border which would have been much easier to fix back then and pushed for mass amnesty.

He inherited a relatively balanced budget and ballooned it with unnecessary war debt.

He failed to privatize social security.

He nominated a **** Supreme Court Justice.

His family got into bed with the Clinton's.

He fathered the modern police state.

The list goes on and on.

I would have been terrified to see how Trump would have responded to 9/11 had he been President then. He definitely wouldn't have put forth an effective unifying message like Bush did. Bush was able to unite a very polarized country (Bush v. Gore had just happened) behind one common goal to retaliate against the enemy and give America an image of strength. COVID was the one time that Trump was tested to anywhere near the extent that Bush was with 9/11, and he botched it by letting Fauci lock us all down. Not to mention he also spewed childish rhetoric during that time that further divided the country. It's not as easy to unite a country behind one common goal as you think it is.

The Bushes are too swampy and got us into wars. Neo Conservatives. If you want approval from the majority of people on this board you got to be a huge fan of DeSantis. But he ran a poor campaign and failed to get the nomination. Trump buried him. But you would never have expected that would happen reading this board. They said the democrats wanted Trump because he would be the easiest for Biden to beat. But, to their surprise not mine, Biden has bowed out because the Dems realized Biden could not beat Trump. This fact contradicts all those who harped on and on about how we needed DeSantis because Biden will beat Trump.
