I believe the fact the OP was trying to state was no Republican has won the Presidency without winning Ohio. Trump was going to win that state regardless and now there will be another open senate seat.

Biden was not the first. Van Buren was first. After that, so did James Polk, Zachary Taylor, James Buchanan, Grover Cleveland (twice), FDR, and JFK.

OP has his it messed up. No GOP candidate has ever won without winning Ohio. Republican candidates have won Ohio and still lost the election, but losing Ohio and winning the election has never been done by a GOP candidate.
