And most of the idiot masses will think it is the day slavery in the US ended, which of course it is not.

Making it a federal holiday was nothing but pandering.

If one wants a holiday celebrating the end of slavery, it should be when it actually ended, with the ratification of the 13th Amendment.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I'm fine with celebrating the semi-official end of an institution that has brought us nothing but trouble over time, even going on a century and a half after it was ended.

It's ironic that the vast majority of the folks that will be off of work because of Juneteenth are white people.

The sound system is the biggest selling point of the that vehicle. It's second to none.

People were polled on "what is the most real holiday" and most people felt the best answer was "Toyotathon"

How did a Texas holiday become Federalized? Granger's order only applied to Texas. Pure political pandering. Do I get a free watermelon or something completely racist like that?….'sarcasm'

Gotta love history. We "celebrate" Juneteenth but ignore that slavery persisted legally in NJ, Kentucky, and Delaware until 13th amendment in December of 1865. Last slave state was a union state.

The 13th amendment or the emancipation proclamation? Both were the right things to do.

It freed all slaves in the Union occupied regions of the Confederate states. So a few were freed.

It should have stayed a Texas holiday and not this kiss ass woke thing.

I ask people in MO what Juneteenth is, because they celebrate it.

They have no clue about it origin.

It is weak assed pandering from an even weaker assed administration

While true, another holiday in December would have been a non-starter. You've already got Vet's, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and President's in that Nov to Jan holiday season. June does make the most sense, even though it's not historically accurate. I'm fine having a national holiday to recognize the ending of a horrible chapter in this nation's history. I'm hopeful we all can agree to that.

ETA Sorry, I meant MLK, not President's. And if I'm honest, MLK doesn't need a national holiday; that should have been a holiday recognizing the end of slavery, and placed at a suitable date, like June.

Juneteenth on the national level is cultural appropriation of a regional celebration by Black Texans.

This is correct. Lincoln's Presidential Proclamation in the U.S. had zero bearing for a foreign country. Perhaps Biden could surrender for Russia to Ukraine today as his "Proclamation".

The date is what it is, and moving it to "Ratification Day" would be more historically accurate, but horribly confusing to many. Let's mark a day and remember a rightfully dead institution.

What Grager's GO actually said- to 'The people of Texas'.

Galveston Texas June 19th 1865.
General Orders
No. 3.
The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor.
The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.
By order of Major General Granger
F.W. Emery
Major A.A. Genl.

Note some of the provisions of the order were promptly ignored, I suspect.

The issue is the illiteracy. The purpose for federalizing the Texas holiday is to poke a red state in the eye.

The message is intentionally "Look at that evil red state and the way they kept you in chains even after defeat!"

Kids don't learn that Lincoln was an (R). And the few that do get fed the party flipping lie where they think the civil rights movement was a (D) lead effort. So if our nation is illiterate of that basic history - what do you expect the left was after when they put the words "Texas" and "slave hold out" in a federal holiday?
