Asia is full of people. I've noticed many of them get real close to you when talking because they're used to being close to others. My son roomed with a guy from China in grad school, and he became a good friend of our family. We would invite him to Thanksgiving and other events. He took the American name "Wayne." Never failed, I would start talking with Wayne and he would get right in my face, like I could feel the moisture in his breath on my face. I would back up a step, and Wayne would take a step forward. This repeated itself until I moved all the way from one side of a large room to the other side and eventually had to pull an escape maneuver.
I worked with a guy from India a few years ago. Same thing. I was more direct and pointed it out to him, and he said "you have to understand, I'm from India and we're used to being on top of each other." I said well yeah, but this ain't India; it's America, and we have plenty of space. Now please stop getting in my face.
