It's suppose to be insulting to hispanics, not caucasians in the same manner as banana is an insult from one asian to another.

Makes sense, brown on the outside, white on the inside. But I've never actually heard it used that way and I'm around a LOT of Mexicans. I hear it aimed at gringos like me instead. Maybe the term just lost its roots.

Maybe they use that for caucasians trying to act hispanic? My wife was called that at her first bilingual teaching job. The parents were talking amongst themselves and called her a bolillo. She looks caucasian so I guess the parents think she was a caucasian trying to teach bilingual ed. She was born and grew up in Mexico and attended university in the US.

I'm a retired Fed, and I would help. Hell, I could knock out a solid 15-20% of my old agency (Washington DC, regional, and state office folks, mainly) and they might not miss a beat.
