The really disturbing thing about this is that there are a lot of current and former US government employees who should rot in prison over this. I will be shocked if a single one of them spends a night in jail.

They would rather not confront evil because it is easier to ignore it. Never mind that it is killing the country because it has not been rooted out.

Trump may be completely powerless against it, but people who wink and nod at it certainly won't stop it.

In reality, when it comes to fighting evil, there are about 30% who will fight enthusiastically to change something. If that 30% can get any help financially and emotionally from the next 30%, then the 40% that control things can be beaten. Otherwise, it goes the other way. We beat Britain, Bolsheviks beat the Russians, Afghans beat the Soviets, Taliban beat us, etc…but usually communism gets its roost and it doesn't go away. It won't here, either.
