Kirk interviews Michael Pearson. He's a lawyer and former ATC who also taught at FAA. He currently has a lawsuit against the FAA regarding this very topic.

I don't know why they can't admit and deal with the fact that not all aptitudes, temperaments, and interests are equally distributed across all the population and certain of those things make the most capable and competent in any field of endeavor, and in some fields competency is critical. Additionally, certain groups of persons tend to prefer certain types of tasks or work, so that you have to have people that want to do the job and are capable of being good at it to have the best candidate pool.
